There are 2 types of twins. Mono-zygotic or identical which are produced by a single ova or egg being fertilized by a single sperm. Di-zygotic twins are not identical but are caused by 2 separate ova being fertilized by 2 different sperm. Hence they could be 2 girls, 2 boys or one of each and are born at the same time although minutes apart.

Is this a trivia question? It is possible for a woman to be pregnant with two or more babies at the same time without them being twins. Two different eggs can be fertilized by two different sperm....think about dogs or cats, they can have a litter comprised of babies from many different fathers.
