You can fit six chairs assuming you allow 24" for each chair. If you put people in them then 5 is probably the maximum you can fit (this allows 28" per person). As the previous answers say, 4 if you want them to be comfortable.

Id say 4 to sit comfortably, it depends on the size of the chairs and leaving a few inches (for elbow room) between xx

4 comfortaby,,,if you assume an area a placemat might take up at mealtime and that 4 people need enough comfort space to not crowd others,,,plus anything else you might have on the table, such as bowls, condiments, etc.

4 would be nice , you don`t want to put 5 and 6 as too many .
