Who are you and why do we care?

Scratch that - I don't care.

That depends on who said it and the context. If you are going by the God in the Bible, than I feel it is a false statement. There are many examples of God & violence in the bible. As for the nature of the soul, I think violence is inherent in many people's souls.

I would say that statement is false. Violence occurs in every country, and within every soul. It is compatable when it has purpose. God told the Children of Israel, when He gave them the Land of Canaan, to kill all the inhabitants, to purify the land. It had a purpose. God knew that if innocents were destroyed in this war, He could restore them 1000 times over on the other side and take them into His rest.

Violence is perceived as killing and hurting people, which is a really narrowed view of it. Violence occurs in the heart of people daily. We use violence daily..we kill animals for food. We spank children, we curse at the neighbor...we hate from our heart while silent with our tongue. Violence has been given a new defination and labeled as "evil" in our society. Violence is what it is, it can be evil or it can be for a purpose. You take a child by the arm and pull it to safety from an on coming car, it is called a rescue, but in fact YOU employed a technique of overpowering a person, which is violence. Violence used for the good of a person.

It sounds nice. I do not know if violence if incompatible with the nature of everyone's soul but it is certainly incompatible with the nature of God.

God bless you.

I believe violence is incompatible with anything and anyone, and definitely incompatible with the nature of the soul.

Interesting, It is not the nature of God but is the nature of men. The soul lives on , but not all souls go the way of God.

Fluffy baby-talk. Try being a little more technical.

"Nature of the soul" means something entirely different depending on who you talk to. Do you mean physical violence or violence in a more abstract sense (mental, emotional, etc) What is my "nature"? I, God, am only what you make me out to be.

First, there is no god and no soul.

Second, let us rephrase this a bit taking that into account. "Violence is incompatible with good."

So tell me, if you have a force of 100,000 soldiers and a neighboring small country rebuked you every time you demanded they end the horrific practice of slavery, you would not go to war to end the abomination of slavery?

Then you are not moral. Good people understand that they must sacrifice for the greater good, and good leaders trust their subordinates to be willing to make that sacrifice.

Better a thousand people die than one person have his freedoms limited or restricted.

Pope: jihad violence is against God's nature
Anti-dhimmitude from Pope Benedict XVI, who also quoted Byzantine emperor Michael Paleologos saying some decidedly non-politically correct things about Muhammad. "Pope speaks out on jihad, urges talk," from AP, with thanks to all who sent this in:

REGENSBURG, Germany— Pope Benedict XVI said yesterday that Islamic holy war was against God's nature and invited Muslims to join in a peaceful cultural dialogue....
Citing historic Christian commentary on holy war and forced conversion, the Pope quoted from a 14th-century Byzantine emperor, Manuel II Paleologos.

"The emperor comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war," the Pope said. "He said, I quote, `Show me just what (Islamic Prophet) Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.'"

Clearly aware of the topic's sensitivity, he added, "I quote," twice before pronouncing the phrases on Islam, while neither explicitly agreeing with nor repudiating them. "The emperor goes on to explain in detail the reasons why spreading the faith through violence is something unreasonable,'' he said.

"Violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul," the Pope said.

The statement is incompatable with the old testament. It's full of smiting, the wrath of god, and so forth.

I am not a Christan, but... I would argue with the second point... I would say that (sadly) violence is a fundamental part of the soul.
It is part of human nature.
