Amazing how Muslims with chips on both shoulders are rushing to condemn the Pope without having read or understood what he said.
Because the Pope is a scholar, and he speaks with reason and logic and a knowledge or history and precedent.
Muslims, parroting their Salafists and other extremists and "fundamentalists" want others to "respect" their "beliefs". But offer nothing but scorn and jihad in return.
Ahah!
"The key word in the Vatican now is 'reciprocity'. The leadership of the Roman Catholic church is increasingly of the opinion that a meaningful dialogue with the Muslim world is not possible while Christians are denied religious freedom in Muslim states." http://www.guardian.co.uk/pope/story/0,,1873926,00.html
For 40 or 50 years the West has been on this guilt trip over multiculturalism. Yet nobody is demanding respect by Muslims for Western culture or belief; or tolerance for minorities in predominantly Muslim countries.
It's over. Islam, in world terms, is a minority religion too. Economically and politically, for reasons attributable to Muslim beliefs, the Muslim world is backward, its own source of income oil.
And then there's Jihad. That, and its asymmetric warfare will bring an end to human rights as we have known them since 1946.
It is stupid to accuse the Pope of saying "Show me just what Muhammad brought . . ." when he was just quoting an earlier thinker, and only for the purpose of illustrating the message cited above: non-reciprocity is over. If you want dialogue, forget your threats and menaces and street violence and effigy-burning. Nobody is impressed anymore. We are free to draw our cartoons and you do your worst: we are beginning to learn how to deal with terror: quarantine and criminal law. And if that fails, attributing the guilt to all who sympathize, all fellow-travellers.

Don’t you see the irony in Muslims being able to desecrate a Christian Temple in Jerusalem by spreading feces on images of Christ? But a Christian leader (the Pope) can’t remind people of what 14th century Byzantine emperor Manuel Paleolous II said about the profit Mohammad several hundred years ago. It wasn’t even the Popes own words or thought. He was repeating what Paleolous II supposedly said. . What’s with the hypersensitivity anyway?
The Muslims can dance in the streets; shout and yell; raise their fists all they want to but I do not believe the Pope owes Muslims an apology for anything.
Some have contended the terrorists are a form of radical Islam and a small minority of the faith. They say the large majority of Muslims are a peaceful people. I am beginning to wonder about these claims when I see the reported millions in the streets protesting what the Pope repeated.
Two faced or what? Is Islam a peaceful religion or a violence based religion? By what I am seeing and hearing, I would have to conclude the latter.

It was not an attack, maybe a bad example at worst. The Pope has no reason to apologize, he quoted a 14th century emperor and it was taken out of context. I know of no other religion in recent history that has been as militant, radical, and terroristic as the Islamic radicals. Almost all terrorist acts have been in the name of Islam, all beheadings, suicide bombing, and torture has been in the name of Islam. The rest of the world should demand an apology from the Islamic clerics, and a pledge for them to stop the senseless violence done by these so called true believers.

I'm curious to know why the Pope chose to quote that particular historical figure, too, and I think it's entirely appropriate for Muslims to insist upon an explanation, but burning things and making threats against Christians is not a rational, civilized response to a mere quote in one speech.
One thing's for sure--to say that the Pope "is going down in history in the same category as leaders such as Hitler and Mussolini" because of one quote shows a complete and utter lack of perspective.

If your beliefs are based on a solid foundation they cannot be weakened by ANYONE passing ill thought out provocative remarks.
If however your foundations are weak then you will react violently at the fear of lossing your crutches.
The Pope has committed one blunder. Islamic leadership needs to respond through debate and dialogue and not with threats and incitement to revenge and retribution.
Everyone knows the Church and the Papacy also have a very murky history in parts. Christianity was not spread through selfless love.

ISLAM IS THE FASTEST GROWING RELIGION, ONE FALSELY IDEA PERHAPS COULD REPEL SPREAD OF ISLAM.
Little Benedicts know about Islam he spoke of ignorance. He didn't acknowledge spread of Christianity with sword [Crusade Wars]; no wonder why Saladin Al Ayubi is no wear to be found a hero in Western Civilization books. He is generalizing about what he sees on tv about Al Qaeda, not Islam itself. How many innocent Muslim imprisoned at Gitmo? Who wrote a trashy forged book and called it "True Furqan"? Who idioticly slaughtered Seikhs identifying them Muslims for wearing turbans? Who conquered Iraq for WMD bollocks, made Abu Gharib scandal? Who disrespected Islam religious figure by drawing cartoons? etc
Worng doers are still blasphemers in Islam as well as in any other faith.
*In Africa, Islam was spread by the book and knowledge.
