I know how you feel, after college I had my son, now age 24 I've tried going back to work and I can't get anything because I have no office experience.....I have A-levels at A and B grades yet noone will give me the chance....it stinks !!!!
Try the ringing around decent companies and offering to do a couple of weeks work experience...they will prob take you on and if you are good maybe a fulltime position and its also experience that will get you a ref for other jobs xx

Try not to get depressed, i have been there, and had more than thirty years work experience, a degree, and what i thought was an impressive resume, and i couldn't get work.
I got to the stage were i would have taken anything before i got the job i'm at now, which is the best job i ever had.
Feel encouraged by your friend getting work because if she was in the same situation as you, it should tell you that it can happen to you also.
Explore ALL avenues, you will find a great job.
Good luck.
Have a nice day.

I have a slight under standing on what you are going through. I moved (from California to Texas) at the beggining of this summer, and the place I i used to live in, I lived in for 13 years (im 14) so pretty much, all my life. And I had to leave my best friend since kindergarden, and my other best friend since 3rd grade. Its really tough, the first week we were in the new house, i prectically refeused to unpack, thinking that if i didnt unpack, the move didnt really count...any ways, i really do feel for you. I think that you should go somewhere and make a new start, or try to mend fences. But just sitting around, being depressed and crying all of the time is not going to help with anything, (trust, me, I have tried it)

Hey, not to worry..
i been thru that, but one day there will be a job for you. Believe me for i was a fresh graduate during the Post SAR period they were hardly any job and they were more retrenchment then opening . And as u have said people are looking for experienced ones but if u could offer a lower price and produce the same result, there is lot of people waiting for u.
What u could do is to keep applying. If u stop then u will never get a job.
You could apply for job is for fresh entry and the asking salary.. maybe u could lower it. Dun mind the low pay.. it is just a stepping stone.
An interview is same as a contract tender try to tell your furture employee what u could offer. All the best, u will....

try www.jobcentreplus.co.uk or try www.totaljobs.co.uk or try www.reed.co.uk all of these websites i used to look on everyday and in the end finally did get a job. Do you have any family that work in a shop or anything you can ask them to let you work there for two weeks a s work experience then put that on your CV at least you will have some work experience then. Also try handing your CV to places around your city centre were you would like to work.

Try and go for a very basic job. I once temped at a place stuffing envelopes (was desperate), but after a week I got offered a perm job there doing something great, although I turned it down as something else came up. But you need to get your foot in the door to prove yourself and gain some experience. Say you are willing to do anything, its the way to get started believe me.

It is so hard when you can't get a job i was trying to get in to accounts but couldn't so i had to settle for an office junior job, i was so upset but a year later and applying for every job that came up in the paper i finally got an accounts job it took a long time but it was such a good feeling when you get one.
Just keep going something will come up eventually.

I havent seen the other answers...but have you done volunteer work in your area? That counts as work experience, and is a great way to get work references. Choose a an agency where you can learn skills you need for your desired job.

If your friend was in the same situation as you, and she just got a job, then that means that there is also something out there for you. It's not easy for anyone to get a job. Keep your sights realistic as to what you are willing to do. Good luck.
