According to the book of Revelation, on the day of judgement, god will liberate everyone from hell and pass judgement on them. But what the hell were they doing in hell before judgement was passed on them? Are there two rounds of judgement, and if so, why would a perfect being need to review its own work?

Better ask your mum, sando, because I don't know. That's ingenious, Anthea, the old mistranslation trick. But Rev 20.13 gives 3 sources for the judged: hell, the sea and death. If you read the rest of the bible, hell is clearly a bad place that has hell fire (Mat 5: 22), and where one suffers damnation (Mat 23: 33) etc etc etc. Try again, I'll leave it open for at least another 24 hours.

Nice try, lucette, but Revelation clearly says nobody is condemned to the eternal damnation of hell, as you put it. What it says is that, not only to the people in hell get liberated to face judgement, hell itself is cast into the lake of fire. If the people in hell face judgement, the verdict can presumably go either way. Otherwise god would just throw hell into the lake of fire, complete with inhabitants; no need to liberate them to face judgement. I''m afraid you haven't provided a satisfactory explanation.

Because of the way that the word “hell” is understood today, many are confused by the words you quote from Revelation. But the original meaning for “hell” is to bury. You may have heard of helling in farming-meaning to plant, as in potatoes. Therefore the hell you mention in Revelation is simply the grave, a symbolic explanation of the dead coming out of the ground to have a judgment passed upon them after what they now do with their second chance of life.

Easy! Don't believe that Jesus was the Son of God who came to save all of us from the eternal damnation of Hell after we die. Don't believe me? Just read the story of Lazarus, the rich man whose spirit knew after he had died, he was damned forever in Hell. (After all, man is not just a body; man is a body, soul, and spirit.) It is in the Bible, in Luke, Chapter 16. You don't have to be good to accept Jesus as your Savior; once you accept Him, he forgives all of your sins, even the worse crimes.
There are two rounds of judgments. The first is the temporary judgment of being either in Heaven (those who accept Jesus when they die) or hell (those who did not accept Jesus and go to Hell). When Jesus comes back to earth, all will stand before Him for the final judgment of either Heaven or Hell forever...for all eternity. Read Second Corinthians, Chapter 5 verse 8 to see where those who do accept Jesus go - as soon as one takes their last breath, they are present with the Lord God. God loves you. That's why God sent His only Son Jesus to die on the cross for all of us in order to save us from the eternal damnation of Hell. He (God) made it simple for everyone to understand.
