Just relax and wait it out for her to be a pornstar of the neighbourhood. Luckily it is a female which you won't have to wait for too long for her to be back when she is hungry. If its a male you will have to wait for couple of days, they're used to giving up food for sex for couple of days.
Cats are rooted for their dwellings not the owners, so don't worry she'll be back very soon

Cat's have very good instincts, and I am pretty sure she won't get run over. Since she is in heat, we both know what she is doing, and I am sure she will come back when she is tired and hungry. Also, as she is and inside cat, she is probably curious, and found some things to explore. I would try not to worry, at least not til she's been gone a whole day. Sometimes my cat will disappear for 1-2 days at a time. Granted he's inside/outside, but the point is cats are curious, as well as being hunters. So my advice would be to chill out for a few more hours, and get her fixed when she comes home.

she is looking for love in all the wrong places. She will come home after she is through with all the male cats in the neighborhood.
1) make posters. Use a good picture of cat but don't put her name in it. She may not respond to a stranger using her name and they will think it not your cat.
2) look around places where you have seen strays and unfixed males.
3) ask delivery drivers, local stores, cop on the beat, to look out for her. Where the taxis are, say you will pay her fair home.
4) ask little kids, esp girls.
5) call closest vet. someone may have seen cat and brought it in.
When cat comes back call vet and get her spayed. You can do it even if she is pregnant. With kittens being just balls of cells, it's nothing to do it. If she wasn't on heat she'd be less likely to run away.
There are just too many cats.

You're going to have to face it....since she's in heat, she's not coming back until she's mated. So prepare yourself for kittens! This is why spaying and neutering your cats is recommended even for indoor only cats. It's amazing what cats will do to get out there and mate.
And don't worry, she'll be able to take care of herself. It's highly doubtful she's lost since cats are very good at finding their way back home. Right now she's on a mission. She'll come home when her mission is completed. Just keep an eye out for her.

Well, if she's in heat...it might be awhile. Chances are you're going to have some kittens when she gets back. Cats are pretty good with taking care of themselves, so you should worry too much. She might be gone for a couple of days. The only thing you can do, really, is just keep watching to see when she comes back.

I know the feeling. My cat was gone for 4 days during a snow storm and I went around putting up signs, contacted the SPCA, and at night I walked the neighborhood calling out his name and saying the stupid things that the cat was used to hearing. I left food outside and a used sock (the cat would identify my odor).
After 4 days, at midnight, I heard meowing at my door. I called his name and the meowing got louder.
When I opened the door, the cat was hesitant about coming home (like he was asking permission). I gave him food. He ate and cried, ate and cried. All night he had crying jags and I would hold him like a 1-yr-old human baby comforting him. I was so relieved that he came home safe and healthy, but my heart was broken because he was so miserable. He slept in a tight ball for a couple of days, the he finally relaxed.
I suggest you put up signs and go out after dark, when cats are more active, and put out food and something like a dirty sock like I did. This was all suggested on the SPCA website.
I hope your kitty comes home safe and healthy.

Sorry to hear that! I have cats and sometimes one of them doesn't show up for dinner and I really worry. What I do is look around the neighborhood and take a drive around the area. I'm actually hoping NOT to find her because it would likely be that she had been hit by a car if I did.
You can put up flyers around the neighborhood, at your bank, post office, mini mart or what ever but really all you can do is hope and pray that your cat will show up hungry.
Good luck!

she will probably come back in a day or so. cats are really smart and come home when they are hungry. i have five cats who are indoors and outdoors. (come in whenever theyd like, go out whenever theyd like) none of them have gotten hit by a car, theyre really fast and even though you think it would happen, there really is a slim chance. though she might come home pregnat if she was in heat... =] so basically dont worry and just wait for her to come back, because she most likeley will.

Assuming you feed dry food you can put some in a cup and shake it outside. Sometimes that brings them home.
Also once she gets home find out if she if pregnant and if she is not have her fixed.
