Absolutely!!!!! I am a dental assistant and I get so sick of parents neglecting their kids teeth either because of money "We don't have insurance and we are broke." or because of ignorance "I didn't know he would have that baby tooth till he was 11." Give me a break!

Any parenting magazine or book can tell you when a tooth is expected to fall out. If a parent will examine their kids teeth at home once i a while and check for any discoloration and they would take their kid to the dentist every 6 months, this wouldn't always be an issue.

And the money issue: I can bet that at least 1/2 of the parents that I have heard say that they can't afford dental work on their kids, have DVD players at home, a big color tv, have a new model care, have internet service, their kids are wearing name brand clothes, etc. This is not a matter of not having the money. It is prioritizing poorly. Your kids dental care is more important than a stupid 4 wheeler or having 150 channels on your cable.

These kinds of parents make me sick! In my office we report them to CPS.

It's abuse and neglect. The mom ended up where she belongs. Dental work is not cheap, but every dentist I know will take payments. Especially if it's a child. That poor little boy, I can't imagine the pain he's in.

It is sick... the mother should have gone to jail!
She neglected her child. It shows in his teeth. Not only with dental care, but with nutrition!
As a parent, it is that person's primary duty to make sure their child has everything that they need to be healthy and survive. This mother neglected her son and is now paying the price... one out of the many who are out there that get away from neglecting their children.

Yes this is abuse but no so much by the mother but by the dentist who said he cant do anything to help this sad little boy. 20 years ago my son fell and lost all of his front teeth and they made him new ones so they could do that for this child too. Why havent they. Also why didnt this childs doctor do anything about it, or his school? Many people have no health insurance and beleive me I know that a dentist will not take payments . The crime is that all children should be covered for illness and dental and that no one helped this mom or child.

With the price of dentist and probable economic condition of the parents, the person should not be jailed with bail out of 25,000, better to pay the dentist to do the necessary surgery and get the boy's teeth in order than paying the bail dont you think?

I agree that the case is an abuse...

Yes, definetely. He is in pain and will live with the consequences of rotten teeth for the rest of his life. Far worse than a bruise. Luckily, it was caught before his adult teeth erupted. I know dental is expensive but prevention is cheap.

There is no excuse for such a thing. I mean, this is America. In America, lower income mothers can get financial/medical assistance for their children (if that was the case here). Truly neglect, resulting in an abusive situation.

yes, i think its abuse. there is no reason at all to neglect your children in this way. If she couldnt afford dental care there are programs that can help. the boy was in obvious pain and it was affecting his health. to me that is neglect and she deserved to be punished for it.

i totally think that is abuse. not only could he had died from the infections in his teeth, he was probably made fun of in school. that poor boy has to live the next several years with hardly any teeth and when they do grow back they will probably so crooked that he may never smile. that is so horrible!!!!!!

The only cure for that parent is the removal of all her teeth and imprisonment with a diet of apples and tortillas. Yeah , thats right .
