what you speak of is culture not the religion of Islam.
In Islam women have more rights than in Christianity. In Islam women and men have the same rights
Abuse is not allowed in any way. Men are the respect the women in their lives. Actually a Muslim man is to make him wife happy at all times.
I am a Muslim woman I am loved and respected by my husband.
I have full rights for education employment and as a any Muslim knows I keep my money and he still gives me more.
And in no wise covet those things in which Allah has bestowed His gifts more freely on some of you on others. To men is allotted what they earn and to women what they earn (4:32)
I have two BA's in Psychology and History and working on a PhD in History. Every is equal.
Women are compensated for work because how much we do in the house.

Building your opinion on a movie is not right...I didn't see it but I'm Muslim and know exactly what Islam has given to women.I have female classmates in medicine faculty more than my male colleagues..Muslim women have all the rights beginning from heritage, education, working, choosing their husband, up to political rights : election and political presentation in parlemants and governments.What you may notice in Muslim communities from discrimination is due to tribial and old traditions which have nothing to do with Islam..And how does Islam justify abuse? this is non sense...Women in Arabia before Islam where part of the heritage and after Islam they took all the rights a western woman is happy with. By the way why don't you ask American and European women who converted to Islam this question and they will answer you better than me.

Stop insulting a religion you know nothing about. You better keep your mouth shut. How do you know what Islam is about and what it isn't about??? Islam does not neglect rights and is not terrorist. Nothing you said is true. We muslims know what Islam is you don't see us complaining. We are a religion of peace and harmony and anyone telling you otherwise is lying. It is really stupid how everyone is always pointing fingers at the Muslims when all we want is peace. Osama calls himself a Muslim but he is no muslim to us not as long as he is terrorizing others. We respect other religions and expect mutual respect but people are blinded by lies to see the truth. Only those who know Muslims and live among them know how peaceful they are. Don't tell me otherwise cause there is nothing more to say. Don't insult Islam.We may just as well insult Christianity but we don't, you know why? because it is also a religion from God and Jesus is a prophet we believe in and love just like you do.

Let facts speak:
1-A muslim woman keeps her name after marriage(ie her identity doesn't dissovle with marriage)
2-Muslim women have their separate financial identity
3-Muslim women can divorce themselves
4-A muslim woman is valued acc. to her brain and not her looks...
and the list goes on..
Ignorance isn't the solution.

Muslim women do not have to accept abuse and neglect. The prophet Mohammad never taught that women should be slaves of men; we are strong and are fighting back.

Islam does not justify abuse. There are explicit writings in the Qura'n which give women many rights (even moreso than men!) Unfortunately, some people misquote and deliberately misunderstand Islam in order to live the way they want to!

Islam does not deny the rights of woman, it upholds them. In fact, Islam gives mothers a status comparable to prophets.

The Rights of Husband towards His Wife
Financial and other means of care: A husband has the right of home management and direction. A husband, although a leader, but is not tyrant governor. A husband has the authority to see that family's interests are best served. This is based on the instructions of the verse of the Glorious Qur'ân, Sura Nisa (The Women) 4:34 the meaning of which is translated as: Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the one more [strength] than the other, and because they support them from their means.
Furthermore, the husband, as a man, is more rational in resolving issues of family life. Wife, as a woman, is emotional in general.
A wife is required to obey the commands and instructions of her husband so long as these do not involve any act of disobedience to Allah's Command, and the Prophet's directives. This is in response to the instruction of Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) based upon Aeshah's question to him: Whose right is greatest on a woman? He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied spontaneously, replied spontaneously. Similarly, when Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was asked, whose right is greatest on a man? He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied, It is his own mother[50].
A wife must not impose on her husband things that he cannot afford, or ask him for things that he is not capable to produce. A woman is also required to protect the wealth, the children and the lineage [by protecting herself and being completely chaste.] Additionally a wife must not leave her husband's home without his prior knowledge and approval. A wife is also, not allowed to let any person whom the husband hates, or dislikes to see in his home. This is based on the instructions given by Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): The best of woman is that whom if you look at her you will be pleased (to see), if you command her [to perform any lawful action] will obey you, and if you are absent, or away from her (house) she will protect and preserve your wealth and lineage[51].
