My 8 year old golden has had an enlarged heart for few years. I recently noticed twice that he kind of coughs through his nose but it just makes a noise like he breathes through his noise loud in even spasms. What is this?

Its called a reverse sneeze if its what I think you are discribing and its very predominant in beagles and other hound mixes. Its usually brought on by stress. I have not seen the large breeds without hound do this and with yours having an enlarged heart that you already know about it would be beneficial to let the Dr see him.

Get him to the vet immediately. It could save his life. A little dry cough is one of the warning symptoms of congestive heart failure.

Phone the local vet, they may want to check him out, and it will hopefully give
you peace of mind.
