ahhh. the "I was drunk" excuse that most common sensed women will tell us is a flat lie.

the collection of stories we read promotes all maner of taboo things besides 10 commands, there are about 630 more we don't like to discuss that usually favor men and inhibit free choice

well we all can act as god so to speak and promote our own values and encourage behaviors and talk with others how we feel

read the N. Testament and you see that Paul and others call the O. Test guys 'men and women' of God, righteous and justified

justified homicide, justified incest, justified genocide, justified jealousy....justified...justified...

good and bad determined by those in charge based on what they promote and find acceptable behavior, even if it's inequality and specialness, encouraging men to treat women poorly and "the chosen ones" to eliminate others and invade and occupy foreign lands....it's still happening today

and yes you can thank religion for it's influence

but ultimately we are responsible for choosing what to act on, blame for crime lies with us not a god or the teacher telling us what to do.

our actions should be beneficial, mutually to all and not be harmful to self or others

Hi. This is the thing that I love about the Bible. It shows "the heroes" in all of their imperfections and weaknesses. I don't know about Judaism, how they regard Lot. But Peter, in his New Testament epistle called him "righteous". I think that term at times defines a person's position in the faith more than their practice. This is the case with Lot. Lot was a believer in the God of Abraham. Therefore, positionally, he is a member of the "house of faith". The lesson from Lot is that, for a believer, he is a poor example, having made some pretty bad choices. His decision to settle near Sodom was his biggest mistake. He espcapes by shere grace. His daughters, who had been corrupted by the culture of Sodom are the ones who get him drunk and seduce him. Again, his downfall is allowing himself to be in a situation where his moral convictions are out of his control and eveantually compromised. Lot is a believer. But he is a negative example ("heroe") of how not to live (as a believer in Yaweh). He was like so many who have the talk but not the walk. It caught up with him. Hope that helps (see Genesis 13, 14 and 19, I love Genesis. It's better than a soap opera in some places). Best wishes.

If you read the Bible you'll notice Lot was drunk out of his mind when the incest occurred and the women basically raped him. In the New Testament Lot is characterized as one of the "good guys." Being one of the "good guys" however, does not mean that person is without sin, and drunkenness is obviously considered a sin in the Bible. In fact, the Bible is chock full of examples followers of God choosing to sin. Heck, right around the Lot passage, the Bible tells the story of Abraham--one of the most highly regarded figures of Judaism, Christianity and Islam--lying about his wife not being his wife and allowing a king to take his wife into his harem! This is all an example of why Christ needed to come--even the best of us are prone to greviously sin against God!

Read it again, he didn't initiate the sex. His daughters got him drunk and then, pretty much, raped him.

And yes, the Bible does promote incest. Abraham and Sarah were half-brother/sister. Lot and his daughters. After the flood, sooner or later someone has to sleep with a cousin or a sibling (since they were the only people alive, according to the bible). I do find it weird though, Christianity is soooo against sex unless you are married, yet the Bible is filled with people sleeping around with everyone else.

you're precisely correct. some church homes have deified Mary, yet that could want to wish to not be. She develop into only a godly woman who develop into chosen to provide beginning to Jesus; she's not a god/goddess or the mediator between God and adult men. As you've said, the Bible makes it sparkling that Jesus is the in basic terms mediator between God and adult men. otherwise, Jesus don't have stated in John 14:6 - "no individual contains the daddy except by me."

I always wondered about that story myself, and then claiming they got him drunk and made him do it....Uh huh, yeah, like that would hold up in court today.Ever notice women get blamed for men's actions a LOT in the Bible, Eve OFFERED the apple to Adam..... It DOES NOT say
...."And Eve took the Fruit of the Tree and rammed it down Adam's throat against his will. And God was Angry.."....

Oh and for all of you saying it was the DAUGHTERS' Idea? Hull-oh! Daddy is the one who TOLD them they were the last people on earth in the FIRST place. And he wasn't injected with liquor, again he drank it of HIS OWN FREE WILL....

the daughters got Lot drunk. the daughters thought they were the only ones left on earth and as such they had a duty and obligation to continue the species so they did what they thought had to be done.in some Cultures and Societies in Ancient Times this practice was accepted. one should not judge the Ancient Culture and Society practices which were accepted by what we accept today unless they agree. Cultures and Societies simply change over a period of time or the stagnate and die.

No, and when the time come, incest was outlawed in the Bible.

By the way Abraham married his half sister.
Others married close relatives in the Bible.

His daughters got him drunk and took advantage of him. God's word doesn't support what these women did, it condemns it: look what happened to the sons born of these sinful unions -- Moab fathered the Moabites, which persecuted the Jews and will face utter destruction by God in the end times; and Ben-Ammi, who fathered the Ammonites, another accursed tribe.

Peace.
