Get it out of the kitchen, call an exterminator, put out poison or a rat trap.
Clean all your pots and pans or anything it may have come in contact with in very hot bleach water!

Serious problem. Buy some Dcon and get it down in places where you've seen it run. They eat and go somewhere else to die.
Be sure that children or pets can not get at it. Sorry to say, if you've seen one, there are probably others. See if you can find where they might be getting in and get that sealed. Because of their size trapping can get nasty, but that is another option. Good Luck.

There really is a terrible rat problem in New York isn`t there ? I couldn`t deal with it. My advice of course is move the hell out of there !!!

After many great failures ("humane" traps, useless cats, well-meaning but equally useless dogs, sonic devices, etc.) we had to resort to a bb gun. I, the peaceful one, the protector of animals, found myself yelling "Die, you miserable ***!"
I'm not proud of myself, but the rats are gone at last.
And you have only one. Hah! That's kid stuff!

Hand him a beer and tell him to get his butt outa the kitchen if he wants dinner! Better yet, tell him to go change the kid's diaper. That oughta keep him out from under foot for an hour or so! 'N if he don't like it, take yer shillelagh to 'im, ya Mick, ya!
