the first thought that came to my mind upon reading this post was 1. WHY is college tuition fee is America ridiculously expensive? WHY do colleges need so much money? A college is NOT a company like Apple or Microsoft. My sister will graduate from her 4 years of university soon and the total coast of tuition pee paid during those 4 years....is OMG too much. the amount is almost as much as the U.S. national debt. 2. do colleges REALLY need a lot of money? 3. America is currently facing an economic crisis; it is predicted to be one of the worst ever in U.S. history. So unemployment is a rising issue, the economy is getting spoiled and there are more innocent citizens suffering beneath the poverty line. And i am NOT against the government but the federal government doesn't seem to be sorting it out well. I don't know that much about the ecnonomy, so I learned from my sister (she's a business / economics major) and i can tell that the nation, the economy and so on are all facing a crisis. Soo....i don't know but unless the government promises to like help the poor pay for college or something I strongly suggest that colleges DO NOT raise tuition fees. Otherwise...America will face an even worse educational crisis. Does the stuff I typed make sense? hope it does. And......the good news is that the expensive tuition fee paid to a great college was actually worth it since my sister got a great job 2 weeks before graduation.

Our Chow-Shepherd mix (she weighs about 50 lbs) had to have a cut on her face repaired about a year ago- she had to be (briefly) completely anesthetized. There is a general anesthetic called propafol that gives the Vet several minutes to do a quick repair with the dog being completely asleep, but the dog wakes up quickly and doesn't have to be intubated or hospitalized overnight. We took this option with her as we didn't want to further traumatize her with an overnight hospital stay.
The cost of the repair, a week's worth of Rimadyl for pain and a week's course of Amoxicillin to prevent infection - $135 (US dollars) which was well worth it. Her face healed well.
Another option your Vet may choose if your dog is easily restrained is sedation and local anesthetic (such as Lidocaine) to repair a paw pad but given that paws are sensitive areas as are faces, general anesthetic may be required and may actually be preferred.
A hint on giving capsules: Roll the capsule in a dab of peanut butter on the end of a spoon and scrape off on the roof of the dog's mouth. She thinks she's getting a treat, and the antibiotics go down with no trouble. Rimadyl, if it's given for pain, is a chewable and is flavored so most dogs already think it's a treat.

The most common drug vets use for sedation is Ace Promazine. It is not costly. The vet I use for OFA x-rays charges $25 for an injection. You will probably be looking anywhere from $50-$100 for the whole thing, depending on your vet. Ace can be injected in the muscle and makes the dog a little loopy.

That depends on the size of the dog and takes in account also the antibiotics etc that it will need. I'd expect a bill of around £100-£200 alternatively there's the PDSA

if you really think the dog needs a stitch bring it to the vets , but some cuts can be treated with antisepic powder (available from good pet shops) and a bandage.
If you are claiming housing benefit Pdsa will help you with bill.
unsure how much vet will cost as they all vary.

you might want to just ask the vet if it needs to be stitched. their pads tend to heal very well on their own. mine has cut hers pretty deeply several times from running on the river rock at the lake, but it doesn't slow her down, and if it isn't bothering her then i assume she's fine. i just take one of those doggie booties and put it on her foot so the pad has a bit of rest from the normal wear and tear of her running around everywhere.
