Though this incident is over, yet the problem is far from solved. Your sister would be more angry with the dog now and might look for other means to hurt the dog in revenge. You have to consider it as a case of sibling rivalry. You have to involve any elder member of the family or if you are big enough then you can take the matter in your hand. Please try to find out why your sister hates the dog. I can understand her being indifferent to the dog since she loves her cat but there must be a reson to hate the dog. Please take care of that reason to have a long term solution.

First off, let me say that your dog was defending herself against an attack and your sister needs to be taught some self-control around the dog.
If your sister went to the hospital for the bite, your local health department is going to get involved. You will be asked to provide proof of rabies vaccination, and may have to quarrantine the dog for a period of time.
Guaranteed, the dog learned a lesson and she will be inclined to be more fear-aggressive towards your sister. If you can't keep your sister away from the dog, then you may need to consult a trainer about the problem. Best of luck.

Put her on a short lead outside as punishment for the incident. Just long enough to make her get the point of the lesson just learned. It must be done immediately so the association can be made in her head.(This is for the kid, Not the animal) As for the dog, she did nothing wrong. Just praise her good behavior and keep the two of them apart until you can supervise the next encounter. Children can be much harder to train and much less rewarding in the end.

Not a thing. Sounds like the dog took care of the matter. Hopefully
6 year old sister won't be mean to the dog anymore. Do you think she learned her lesson? By the by, do your parents know about
the dog bite? NO? Then tell them EVERYTHING right away.

Sounds as if the dog was only protecting himself. Also sounds like you sister constantly taunts your dog. Hopefully your sister learned a valuable lesson for life there. As far as the dog goes I would try to keep your sister away from him. IMHO I think the dog did nothing wrong it was your sisters fault.

as you just posted this query does that mean you have left it ages after the bite before doing anything(hope not)
regrdless of whether it is a dangerous dog(PITBULL/STAFFY ETC)or not
and irrespective of whether it has had its shots(injections)
the person who has been bit should consult their GP
and look into when they last had a tetanus shot as
dogbites can get a lot worse and result in things such as lockjaw in humans(not pleasant for an adult , never mind a child!)
the dog itself if deemed dangerous may be taken away or you as the owner may receive a warning or fine of some kind
it is just as well that it bit a family member not a stranger
as in some cases this would result in the animal being removed and PTS(thats Put To Sleep for those not in the know)
basically seek instant medical help for the victim
and go to your pet shop and buy a muzzle if you have trouble controlling or cant always watch your dog.
this is a much better (and cheaper )alternative to having your dog terminated due to your own negligence as a bad owner

Keep the dog and 6 year old apart. She's not old enough yet to know how to properly treat an animal.

Dogs should never be teased or hit by youngsters who can be very annoying to animals. However dogs should never be allowed to growl or bite. My dogs are in a situation where I have a young irritating boy who annoys them to the max. One of my dogs has bitten him twice and although it was pushed to the limit. It WAS severely slapped silly to the point of yelping and put away for an hr. My son was also put to bed and reprimanded. I think u would know the difference between a normally gd dog and a dangerous dog. I breed dobermanns and own a yorkie.

Talk to your parents about your sister. She cannot do that. If you let her do that because next she will be taking your dogs food and then it can only get worse.

If the bite broke the skin, you'll need to have it looked at. Do not delay. Rabies is a long shot, but it happens.
