N America is 110v 2pin (3 optional) - All your UK stuff will work with a converter. (Dixons) But anything mechanical like a hair dryer will run slower.

You are from the UK. In USA & Canada they use 2 parallel flat pin plugs with a hole near the end, Voltage 110 60 Hertz,
In UK 3 pins of rectangular shape, the large one is ground or earth. Voltage 240 50 hertz
Your equipment will not work on a lower voltage unless it is a dual voltage appliance. Don't worry about the HERTZ it only affects speed operated devices

110v 2 or 3 pronged plugs. The standard for N and S America and most of Asia.
