I am aware of a law that states that a person is able to proceed to the next lighted area when trying to be pulled over by police.

I wouldn't pull over for them unless I was in a good lighted area w/alot of people around. It's just not safe anymore.

It depends on the state but for the most part you do have to pull over for an unmarked police car. Use common sense. Did you just commit a violation? Is the officer in uniform? Do they have a siren as well as flashing lights? (Most imposter's that I've dealt with don't go through the trouble to put a siren in their car) Have you seen unmarked cars used in the area before? If you are not sure, slow down and turn your hazards on then drive to a public place like a shopping center, a hospital or an open gas station. Real police officers, especially ones in unmarked cars, are aware of the problems that imposter's create and will understand. If you have a cell phone, call 911 and ask for the police. They will tell you if the person is really a cop and if not they can get a real one to you. As a police officer, I can tell you that we take imposter's very seriously and respond quickly.

Yes you have to pull over for an unmarked police vehicle. If you do not like the way the car looks you should still acknowledge that you see the officer and you intend to stop. If you need to you can always call 911 and explain to them what the situation is, where you are at, and the car you are driving. If the car behind you is not a cop then you will see a lot of real police cars soon!

what you need to do if this happens is ....if you have a cell, call the police dept (911) and tell the dispatcher that you are being told to pull over by an unmarked unit and they will verify if that is valid or not, if you do not have a cell, then do exactly what you said, chances are if there is only one unit following you it is only for a minor violation and you would be safe to drive the speed limit to a populated area or a lighted area where you can be seen. If the cop is a jerk about you not stopping, then by all means explain to him in a normal tone of voice what and why you did what you did, if he still blows you crap....file a complaint.

Yes you do, and unless your state has a law, no there is no specific law that states you are allowed to proceed to the next lighted area, In many states it merley says you are to pull over, and the officer will give you instructions if he wants you to move to another area for safe parking.

Now as a matter of principle, unless he is trying to just get around you, they will follow you a short distance, but at some point in most places they will call it failure to stop and you will be treated alot differently once you stop. They will most likely do a felony stop and you will be laying on the ground.

Of course you must pull over. Unmarked police cars are still police cars. I agree with a couple of your responders about being careful but not stopping is a felony in most if not all states and we all know that if you don't stop and any kind of chase or pursuit happens, you will be responsible and rightly so.

most law enforcement agencies dont use unmarked cars or plainclothes officers for traffic stops. i believe you are allowed to drive slowly to the nearest police dept. you can also pull over, keep the doors locked, and call the pd to ask if there is a traffic stop happening at your location and your plate number. your tags will have been called in before the officer gets out of the car, if hes doing his job properly. if the pd doesnt know anything about it, drive to the pd, keeping them on the phone with you

yes you do have to pull over for an unmarked police patrol car-whenever an officer of the law requires you to pull over you have to do it. but i agree with one of the other correspondents in that there is a safety issue here in the case of lone women/children. all police officers are required to show their i.d (if not in uniform) or will be happy to wait while you contact the local police department to confirm their officers number. if you are a lone woman explain to the officer that you would rather stay in the car until his identity can be confirmed. if he gets awkward or aggressive-explain that you are going to drive to the nearest police station (keeping to the speed limit at all times) if he's a genuine police officer he will accompany you without any problems-try to get away though and he will go in pursuit. and his gang is bigger than yours-you will get caught.

IF YOUR WIFE OR DAUGHTER IS THE ONE YOUR ASKING FOR AND IT'S FOR SAFETY REASONS, IE FAKE COPS......HAVE HER TURN ON HER HAZARDS, DRIVE TO THE NEAREST POLICE STATION....IF THEY DO NOT KNOW WHERE ONE IS CALL 911 ON THEIR CELL AND HAVE THEM ASK DISPATCH IF AN UNMARKED POLICE CAR IS TRYING TO PULL HER OVER...IF NO PHONE...DRIVE TO THE NEAREST PUBLIC PLACE WHERE THERE IS PEOPLE AND ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW ONLY ENOUGH TO HAND HER LICENSE TO THE OFFICER. IF THE OFFICER IS NOT IN UNIFORM REQUEST A UNIFORMED OFFICER...ANY COP WOULD UNDERSTAND AND RADIO FOR A MARKED UNIT. I HOPE THIS HELPS.
