Maybe it's because you fancy the person serving you rather than the do nut itself. Can you say "a do nut please - not the ones with jam - just plain" and hope they understand - or just point to the type you want? Maybe you should change to custard creams...unless you find it embarrassing asking for them, of course

i love doughnuts, my fave ones are the ones that are hot and loads of sugar on them yummy, macdonalds used to do them but all they do now is the choc ones i am not too keen on them
