John Howard recently said, he welcomes immigrants if they can offer something to the country, however they are not prepared to change anything to accommodate them......i.e the way we bend over backwards here and cant even fly our flag. Do you think this should be the case for the UK?

Always a toughie. There is a balance to be struck I think. One needs to bring something to the table but ones own culture cannot be stripped or that is an obstruction of freedom.

i have to say yes yes yes would we be allowed to dictate to another country if we moved there i think not if a country offers me a better life then i should be prepared to abide by that countrys laws and way of life not expect them to change to my way of life, at the end of the day if your british your british, there should be no in between , and no im not talking about religion, im talking about the way we live and the wars and all the pain that came with them that were suffered by our grand parents to allow us this way of life are we supposed to just give up because we musnt upset people well if you dont want my way of life ive got an easy answer stay home i am i love my country and am proud of what it stands for freedom of exspression and a free way of life for all so why change something so wonderfull
ps i must add i am not predjudiced in any way but have spent all my adult life paying my taxes and nat ins have you if so why shouldnt you be allowed to say enough is enough lets look after our own for a change would that be to much to ask

Yes I believe John Howard has the right idea, as I have dual nationality I can see the difference here.

I hardly agree with anything that John Howard says or does, but I think he's actually on the right track. He seems to always go too far one way or the other though.

yes i do-at the end of the day we must not lose our identity- we are the united kingdom-there were cases during the world cup when people were asked (in some cases told) to remove the st george cross in case it offends the ethnic monorities. in another case police officers were told they couldn't have a bacon sandwich while overseeing a muslim march (though the muslim elders said they didn't mind what the police officers ate). if ethnics want to live in a country then they have to observe that country's customs and religeon. and the people of that country should not be forced to accomodate for any influx of ethnics-they should be allowed to live as they have done for generations.

Yes, absolutely he has the right idea! Anyone who wants to come to Australia should be prepared to respect ours ideas and beliefs! They should be prepared to respect our basic teachings and holidays, learn our language and respect our lifestyle. Aussies like to take the piss out of everyone - including ourselves! Get over the racial issues.......if we call you a wog or something, don't get precious about it! We call our own neighbours worse than that! Their is a big difference in malicious comment or just taking the piss out of someone.
If you want to come to Aus, expect some disrespect :P

Shame we don't have a strong enough Leader to say the same thing.........It's so obvious that this is the type of policy we need in Britain..........overall it would also help, as we would see immigrants as a positive addition to our community and not a possible drain on our resorses....i.e. tax payers!
