It doesn't matter what you do. You can never be sure your child is 100% safe. The most you can do is pick the best one you can find and hope he/she is safe. I hate to sound negative but it's true. Good luck.

I think staff turnover is a good guage of how a nursery performs. My nursery is a small concern run by an ex teacher, takes only 16 children, the staff have been there for years and my kids love them. Offsted reports also give a good indication, ours is in the top 5% in the country and when we moved to the area, it was recommended to me by child minders.
I have used nurseries in the past that are big, new and look fab, but staff come and go every few weeks and the kids never seemed keen to stay - so you just make your own judgements.

Some daycares now have cameras and you can go online to see activities, but there are spots that the camera doesn't see. But having the cameras is better than having nothing. My two oldest boys went to this daycare once and I thought it was okay but I found out from a close friend who worked there that the teacher in my oldest child's class got sick one day and went to lay down, leaving no one else to watch the kids. She told me the kids had to watch themselves that day. I pulled my kids out of that daycare, my friend found another job, and soon after that the daycare center had closed down. I interviewed this daycare very well, but you can never be too careful. My kids came home filthy and hungry a lot of times. They were not old enough to talk and tell me what was going on. Parents: Get all the info you can on daycare that your child may be going to or is going to because you can never be too careful. And if something ever comes up, report it because you could save another child. I should have reported our incident, but I didn't know anything about that at the time.

I accept that our son can never be 100% safe. Even so, we're moving him out of the nursery that he's in now as they are obviously understaffed and the management shows a distinct lack of tact and professionalism.
Sadly, there isn't a facility for people to compare and review childcare facilities. The Care Commission reports don't seem to always report on the same things so it's hard to compare. So when it comes to choosing childcare providers it's mostly word of mouth, having a good critical look around, luck and experience.

When your child is not in your care there is no such thing as a 100% your child will be safe in the hands of another human being, as sad as it is we live in a evil world, where as most people have their own selfish agenda and motives, life is a risk from the moment when you wake up until you go back to bed. And that is the way life is, to stop taking a risk would mean stop living.

hey sweetie, you need to make sure that your child is 100% safe at this child care, chat to other parents, ask what there thoughts are on this place. Keep your eyes open, just be aware. As a parent i would never leave my child at somewhere, if i was worried. i think that all little children are better at home, until they start school, i do understand that some parents do need to work to survive, its hard... please just check things out, an do this for your own satisfaction that all is well, take care and good luck.

don't believe what you hear on the news. it is fear programming during ads. that is all. in no way shape or form does the 'news' represent what is happening in the world and the editors don't want it to. ignorance and fear. the two forces used to control and manipulate society. don't fear for your childrens safety, you'll end up wrapping them in cotton wool and they will grow up afraid. 100% would be total certainty, as a parent you should always question, but just do what feels right. if you feel that your child may not be safe in a nursery, take them out.

There is probably awful stuff going on somewhere on your street as no where seems to be safe anymore, i would like to see web cams in nurserys where parents have a special access code so they can monitor what is happening from where ever they are, work or home etc

You never feel comfortable leaving your children anywhere no matter who it is with (except maybe family). I have worked at many Daycare Center's and although we do everything that we can to make sure that they are well taken care of sometimes accidents do happen. And then you have places that are just accident pron. Staff child ratio is a main factor to look for! You know but us that have to work have no choice but to put our child safety in their hands, we just have to make sure we do our homework and make sure we place them in the safest place possible!! God Bless!!

You can never make sure your child is completely safe unless you go to daycare and school with them! That is impossible!
The best thing to do is to check references and check teh BBB (better business bureau) and police station to see if any complaints had been filed. If everything seems clear and the references are clear, you are probably safe putting your child in it.
