I tip about $2. If it was a very short ride then a $1 is ok.

I do live in Toronto and I tip at least 2 dollars and more if it's a high amount on the metre.Same rate as if it were a restaurant.

There is no need to tip unless the driver did something for you - got your bags, told you stuff, had a great converstion, whatever. Lots of cabbies don't talk to customers, for many reasons - personal safety is one.
If you do, it really only needs to be nominal. Nothing more that $5. Taxi fair is ridiculous and goes up every few months.

i live in toronto and use a taxi about everyweek, i never tip because the rides already overpriced. i had conversations with them and they helped me put stuff in the cab and they tell me stuff tooo and i never tip them and they never asked either

i dont live in toronto but i live in chicago.. and people dont usually tip their taxi.. we just pay the fare.
