I tried it once, about thirty years ago. I don't really believe I was hypnotized to begin with. I t didn't help me quit smoking at the time, although I think I slowed down for a couple of days, trying to justify to myself spend the $50. I quit once for 10 years and I haven't smoked in the last 2 years, but I can't say I will never smoke again..... But I hope not... Yes cold turkey is the way.

Recent studies show that hypnosis has some short term benefit but wears off rather quickly. You best bet is to go cold turkey. Think of it like this if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island and you couldn't get smokes you would get over it in around 3 days

“Hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking, according to the largest ever scientific comparison of ways of breaking the habit. Willpower, it turns out, counts for very little”. (New Scientist, Vol 136 issue 1845, 31 Oct 92, pg 6)Results included 48 studies of hypnosis covering 6000 smokers, that were published in the Journal of Applied Psychology which clearly showed that hypnosis was three times more effective than nicotine replacement therapy

Giving up is different for everybody, so find a strategy that will work for you. This may be either the cold turkey approach (stopping all of a sudden and completely) or a more steady reduction in the variety of cigarettes you smoke each day. Set a date to quit-- and adhere to it. Make it faster instead of later on. If you are stopping on your own, it is suggested that you stop smoking completely on your quit date.
