If you say "I love you", there must be some meaning behind it. Love is not a dirty thing. You love your wife, your brother, You sister, your mother. it is a real love and there is no way back. If you do it, you will not be sincere and will tend to underplay with the feelings of others. It is not good.

Well there is no way back, u will always remember this. But certainly u can get out of it by being frank and foreward to whom u proposed by sating the truth. Its better that he/she gets hurt now than later.

The basic answer is that it depends on who you say that to ... but if it is within a relationship, one that is at the stage when one would say 'I love you' and mean it ... then ... no, there is no way back ... unless you have a really really good excuse!
