I assume you are asking because you have chronic pain and not because you are looking to acquire pills in an illicit manner?
Anyway, I prefer neither, most opiates make me loopy and nauseous. I think I've had one Vicodin in my whole life and I've never had any of the other drugs you mentioned either. Anyway, if I had to chose a pain reliever that worked well, it would be fentanyl and demerol with an honorable mention for valium (which is not an opiate but a very nice benzodiazapine).
However, I'm a nurse so I give these to people all the time. Tylenol w/codeine is the weakest and codeine makes a lot of people nauseous. Darvocet is the next strongest, followed by Vicodin, which is an ok pain reliever but it contains too much Tylenol so you reach the 4gm limit pretty soon (there is a limit on how much tylenol for the liver).
Percodan is rarely prescribed nowadays, you are probably thinking of Percocet. Percodan contains aspiring which contributed to post-op bleeding and is now a schedule II drug. On the other hand, Percocet is used often and seems to work great for surgical pain, that's what most of our c-section patients take. It contains Tylenol (but less than Vicodin) and oxycodone. Oxycontin or Roxicet is JUST the oxycodone without the useless tylenol getting in the way so obviously if you're looking for the most bang for your buck this is the way to go.

Since all of these are Controlled Class C substances, it depends on the Pain, I had Rectal Surgery and when given Percodan, or Percocet, I found Relief, however, all of them are highly addictive, and have become Street Drugs, making it more difficult for Doctors to prescribe medications to Patients that are really in need.
It's not really the Hydrocodone content that will hurt you, but the Tylenol and Aspirin content that will eat your stomach lining and cause Kidney and Liver damage.
I would rather see a home remedy react as well, but have not come across that yet...legal anyway.

It's different depending on the level of pain. In some cases Codein with tylenol, but in other cases demerol or morphien and not the others....ps I would stay away from Oxy due to it's high level of addiction , I know all these are addictive but that one seems to be really tough to kick.

Oxycontin is not intended for use "as needed". Vicodin or Lortabs are your best bet for moderate to severe pain relief.

I PREFER VICODIN BECAUSE IT DOESN'T MAKE ME SICK OR LOOPY AT WORK. NEVER TRIED PERCODAN, WONT TRY OXYCONTIN BECAUSE MY FRIENDS MOM OVERDOSED ON THAT AND DIED. CODINE MAKES ME THROW UP.
