There are so many sites showing Art for sale, but have any of you actually sold a piece or more? I am wondering if it is really worthwhile.

I haven't managed to sell any works, but I have received commissions for book covers from publishers who've seen my paintings on web sites. Plenty of people seem to sell paintings on e-bay, but it doesn't look cost-effective to me.

I am selling my art on www.cafepress.com/chrysalisart and also on www.printfection.com/chrysalis.
People can buy my art on t shirts, mugs, magnets and other products. A lot of people really like the art I've done about getting smoke free. I quit smoking on June 12th and have been quit for 3 months now.

I tried selling my canvas paintings on Ebay and they didn't even sell for 20p, people want something for nothing, the canvas was worth alone was worth more and people like them alot who i've shown them to in person, i'm now going to try to set up my own website instead as Ebay takes quite abig cut of money from you even if they don't sell, a bit of a con. Why not try the american website Deviantart.com, where you can show your own work by joining up, not sure how much commision they take but friend of mine has her work on there.

No, but I have sold some of my poems to online magazines. Why not try to sell your work to magazines or publishers and make some money from that? Here's a list of magazines that accepts work from artists/writers: www.clmp.org. Usually it is not a lot of money, but it's something. It is hard for new artists to get their name out to the public.

As for me, no. However it's worth a shot, technologies in nowadays are more advance that internet can be used to advertise artworks. Internet is much faster and accessible, even like e-shopping on line.

I have sold a few but I have found it is easier to promote merchandise with your art on it so people can afford the art...
