I'd probably join a support group with other people that are HIV positive...then i'd research the hek out of it, and find the best ways to prolong my life. I guess that would include medication, excercise, etc. Then i'd have to break the news to my family. I'm sure they'd support me, but it would be scary. Basically, anyone's life and outlook on life would change drastically. good question.

I am surprise at a lot of people answers because HIV is not the end of your life. You could have cancer or other diseases but that doesn't mean you should stop trying to live. It's NOT the end of the world, and there is no running from death. I would tell my FI and my family and seek proper medical treatment. I would still live my life to the best of my abilities and join a support group.

Tell your doctor that you are HIV-positive so that your health can be monitored and so you won't be prescribed drugs that might harm your immune system.

You should also tell anyone who may be exposed to your blood, semen or vaginal fluid, including present and past sexual partners or needle-sharing partners. If you do not tell these partners yourself, a doctor or public health worker may be allowed to let them know that they may be at risk for HIV infection.

You may want to tell one or two trusted friends or relatives about your HIV status to help them build their own support network. If you are not comfortable discussing this with anyone you know, you can talk with a counselor.

How do I get treatments and medical care?
Find a doctor or clinic where you can get regular medical checkups to monitor your health. Your local public health department may maintain a list of physicians with HIV expertise. Talk with your health care providers about your health and treatment options. Ask questions about anything you don't understand. Learn as much as you can about HIV treatments and AIDS. Take an active role in managing your health.

How do I cope with having HIV/AIDS?
HIV/AIDS brings with it many quality-of-life issues, including:

Poor nutrition.
Depression, anxiety and mental health issues.
Financial difficulties.
Legal problems.
Workplace issues.
To help keep your quality of life, exercise, eat a nutritious diet, avoid stress and get enough sleep. Smoking, drinking too much or doing illegal drugs can reduce your body's ability to fight infections and the HIV virus.

What else can I do?
Services and support organizations are in every major city and region of the United States. Check your phone book for a local listing.

After the initial shock, finding out who passed it on to me and telling my friends and family. I would live each day the same way I live it now.

I have a friend that has been HIV positve since 1989.

After I got over my total breakdown of temper tantrums, crying, and other fits, I would tell my husband. Make sure he got tested, make sure my kids got tested, then I would start tracking down old boyfriends from 10+ years ago and tell them to get tested (or retested if they say they have been.)

Then I would break it to the rest of my family, my husband's family, and our friends.

Then I would do my best to live my life the best that I could without hurting my children. It will be hard enough for them to possibly loose me down the road, so I need to be the best mother I can while I'm here so that they will have good memories of me.

Time to stop typing, I'm getting emotional over here!

I guess that I would have to live with it, because that is the way the disease works. I would have to change my life around.

After getting over two other "incurable" diseases, I suppose I would get over HIV. Why?
