Clove Oil - it really helps.
(Just don't touch your eye after applying it... stings like you wouldn't believe.)

You did not say if you have any swelling in the area. I'll assume that you have an infected tooth. You can do several things before your appointment. Call your medical doctor and see if he'll give you a prescription for an antibiotic, a strong anti-inflammatory such as Lodine, and a strong pain-killer such as Tylenol III (codiene). If that is not possible the only thing that I can recommend is that, if you can take Ibuprofen, that you can take as much as 800mg (that's 4 tablets of the over the counter type), every 4-6 hours. But one thing that you should definately do... call the new dentist that you'll be seeing next week and discuss what is happening and ask him what you should do in the meantime. He might be able to prescribe medications for you. Good luck.

Brush with clove oil. It will numb the area. Regardless of whether or not that works for you, after your problem has been fixed make sure appreciate how good your teeth feel. Recognize your health when you have it, not only when you don't (if you don't).
Also remember to look at life in the big picture. A couple days of pain is really insignificant, and in a couple years it will be a vague memory. It might seem really bad right now, but it will pass.
Consider how lucky you are to see a dentist at all.
Good luck with it though.

been there and can fully sympathize with you BUT i would never EVER go back to my butcher ooops! dentist after my horrific ordeal which began as a toothache...anyway, thats another story. ...
* clove oil dabbed around the offender will ease the pain & the taste is pretty foul which may help take your mind off the pain.
** an alcoholic beverage or 3 will help ease the pain (gin, scotch, vodka, rum, brandy - yr choice - y chose, chuck em all in, the hangover is sure 2 overpower the toothache!)
*** a few joints (not that i encourage th use of illegals!)
**** headbutt a wall - either knock yrself out or cause yrself such a bad headache yr toothache will b a distant memory.
hope these help & GOOD LUCK at dentist xx

Try the chemists again and ask for Tooth Tincture. You put a few drops on a cotton wool ball and apply it to the tooth. This will take the pain away. If you can get easy access to the tooth, drip the Tooth Tincture onto the tooth directly, this will last longer.

Clove oil is great, It totally numbs the tooth, But be careful not to get it on your gums, or tongue. It tastes terrible. But it really works as temporary pain relief medication.

Hold your hand over an open flame for thirty seconds. Your tooth will still hurt, but you will be in such excruciating pain with the burnt hand, that you will ignore the toothache.

When I was a child, my mom used to soak a cotton ball in whiskey and put it on the tooth. It numbed it.
