Well... we know where: Bethlehem... what we don't know is EXACTLY when... and here's why:

It doesn't matter...

The fact that he was born is enough to assure us of his humanity... what is more important to us (and is critical to the plan of salvation) was when he died.

And I realize that a lot of us like the intricate details of every story... but in the grand scheme of things... the date of his birth would serve little, except a rallying point for another holiday... his death & ressurection on the other hand assure us of the opportunity to escape hell... and so, while I LOVE a good holiday party, I'd much rather have the details that will make a difference to me when trying to determine where I will spend eternity.

There is no concensus on when many people in history were born, but that doesn't detract from the fact that they existed.

Because there were no registry offices in those days. Who would they have put down for father as well?
