Far too many Tobacco lobbyist in the pockets of big government.

It would be nice to do away with it (and I smoke even), but it will never happen.

Lets say a 10 year old kid steals a pack of cigarettes from a neighbor. What would be your biggest concern for him? Would it be the fact that he is beginning a life of crime or that he is beginning a life of addiction? My guess is your answer will be the fear of his addiction. My concern is far greater for the behavior patterns he is employing. This is far greater a threat to society than is using tobacco. Today, if you go to a ball game, you are far more likely to be chewed out for smoking than for screaming obscenities at the players whereas 50 years ago you were far more likely to be chewed out for screaming obscenities than for smoking. The issue is morality is confused by this politically correct advertising campaign. Obscenity is far more harmful to our society than is the use of tobacco, but this isn't even recognized anymore. Tobacco use is bad, but it doesn't warrant all this concern while behavior and value of life are resulting in far more death and injury to members of our society than smoking ever has.

It has been around for centuries and people are addicted to it. If the government tried to make nicotine products illegal, there would be a huge uproar and they would find some way to convince the gov't. that it is "unconsititutional" to make it illegal. I guarantee that is what would happen. And I think the gov't knows this too, which is why they haven't done anything like this. I don't think we'll ever see the day...sadly.

Eventually it might come to that. In fact I think it will. But it is going to take a long time since the government depends on the tax dollars from tobacco for revenue. It is very hypocritical, isn't it?

eventually it will die out. Bam will be hosting the Tonite Show when the last smoker ejects a huge ball of bloody phlegm into the audience before keeling over.
