Not huskies, I'll tell you that much! either something small and easy to control or a breed that is easily trained or classified as very obedient.

Huskies are bred for pulling sleds so they therefore will pull hard while walking.

but if they are trained (like mine are:) they can be taught to heel and will walk with you. they're also great for excercise and have awesome personalities; neither of mine have ever bitten anyone andboth love kids. if you're walking for excercise, just have the dog pull you along!

the breed really shouldn't matter, so long as the dog is trainable (which all generally are;).

just be sure the dog doesn't flipout if another dog walks by. that can easily become an out-of-control situation if the dogs want to "meet".

If you were to adopt a rescued racing greyhound you'd be getting a dog who loves to walk and is well leash trained. I've got 3 of them and have fostered others and I've never had one who didn't like kids. There are, though, some of the younger, larger, more boisterous males who wouldn't be good with very young kids only because they could knock the kids down when they're playing.

If you adopt one from a rescue group, the dog will be spayed/neutered, have their shots, and will also be temperament tested so you'll know if they're cat friendly or not, small dog friendly, and so on. These dogs make great pets, are very affectionate and loving, and have very few health problems.

I disagree with a previous answer. I have a full blooded Siberian Husky.. and she is a dream to walk. Doesn't pull or tug. She'll go ahead of me and when the leash is about up,she'll stop and wait. It just depends on how you train them and how much they trust the person walking them I suppose. You can't prejudge an animal just because they used to be sled dogs.

One with a good self-esteem, fixed, and has nothing to prove; enjoys the family's company and the great outdoors - obeys some of the time

A jackrussel! they are great pets and they dont take crap from other dogs or people. It cant pull you over cos it's too small. Dont recommend a rottweiler! They can drag you behind them!

Cocker Spaniel. If you start them off as pups with the walks, they'll get used to walking later on (and no "Hey, what's that smell?") Also easy pups to carry when they do get tired.

I have a Dalmation/Great Dane mix and he does WONDERFUL doing any type of activity but he likes to just sleep to.

I have a pug and she just likes to play but not hike or walk...it has to do with her short nose.
