ok, one kilogram is about 2.2 pounds.
$16 AU is around 13-14 US dollars. Our income is higher than US but we do not believe in tipping. Therefore we are taxed on almost everything we earn. The reason why bananas are so expensive is that a massive cyclone tore down 90% of our banana trees, and supply is low.

They certainly are very expensive in your area.
Here in Singapore, we get many varieties of banans. Those big ones that you eat, we call them Del Monte, about S$1.40 to S$1.60 /kg.
I prefer "phang Jioh, or pisang emas" variety (translated as fragrant banana, a smaller, sweeter but slighty firmer variety.
S$1.20 to S1.30 /kg.
The best tasting is "Pisang Raja" variety (translated as banana king", but hard to get as most are booked by commercial shops, about S$1.60 /kg.
Exchange rate is around US$1 = S$1.58 and Aus$1 = S$1.19

That is the Queen's pound isn't it? or is it a Euro? ...anyway, 1 kg is the same as 2 pounds (weight) in the U.S. and they are .79CENTS a pound for regular bananas, and .99CENTS USD for Organic bananas.
$17.99 would be $13.50 or thereabouts in USDollars, so, they are REALLY EXPENSIVE THERE EH? Do you make that much more income there than we do...Bcz in Canada the income is quite a bit greater than the U.S.
