I went to trade my truck in for a car, but my boyfriend found something he wanted and so he traded his car in for another car, (his car was 100 miles away) they didn't see the car, but they traded we signed contracts the after he brought his car in they called a couple days later and said they changed the contract (which made our payments more). Can they do that?

More then likely you received something giving them a right to change the amount given for his trade. Are you sure that it wasn't your interest rate that went up. If the price of the trade in has changed the contract is void they will have to have your boyfriend come in and resign the new contract with the new figures. He can refuse and return the car and get his back. You might have different laws for where you come from so if I were you I would check out some of the local laws covering dealerships and sales.

That sounds quite strange. To alter a contract AFTER it was signed is a violation of the law I would assume. Unless there was some really fine print on the bottom saying," We reserve the right to change the terms of this contract at any time after signing by both parties..."
Anyway, you should get proper legal advice on it.
Good luck!

It depends. How carefully did you read the full contract? Did you check it over for anything that would allow them to revise their numbers after they reviewed his car?

It's probably not illegal if the contract you signed stipulated they could do this. If you still have a copy of the contract read it over FULLY. If you don't find anything, hire a lawyer to read it over for you, then consult with the lawyer over what could be done.

No. They are legally bound to the contract. If you have a copy of the original contract, you can take them to court.
