They just don't get it, Jeffrey. It's cultural. These people are living day by day, trying to make ends meet. They haven't had the benefit of an abstractively programmed, western education, and they don't see the longterm benefits, because it's alien thinking to them to think truly longterm. You are right of course from your perspective, but your question contains most of the answer already. This approach is hopeless. They need someone who sees the big picture to make some decisions for them and see it through, only then will they see the benefits, and have a precedent to copy. Don't despair.

i'm a teenager & so i haven't gone in2 any war 4 now.but i know its not good'bcoz it takes the life of many innocent ppl & no matter 4 what reason u kill sum1 taking sum1's life is still considered a sin.u r right, they don't understand the true meaning of the word freedom but tell me how cud they when they don't have inside them that v have with us 4 long time now-Knowledge.they have been living in seculsion & slavery 4 so long time that they r now used 2 it,its normal 4 them.u know v can tell them about it & even help them gain their freedom but not by giving guns 2 fight but by educating them so they cud escape out frm their narrow mentality & understand things around them in a broader & better way.training them 2 wage a war will only install Fear inside them & so the issue u & i r woorried about will never b resolved.

As long as Iraq is occupied, there is no legitimate government to defend over there, but there is a way to make a temporary living and some extra cash by selling equipement. America has to go home first, before any meaningful changes can occur.

Living the good life when a foreign occupier is ruling your country? I would choose to die a thousand times before I accepted for one second being ruled by foreigners. Americans open your eyes-the Iraqi people hate being subjugated by you-they want freedom and self determination which they can't have while American troops are occupying their country.

I lost a lot of friends who couldn't leave before the blood bath hit Nam.Sadam murdered thousands after Daddy Bush listened to you whinney dems and the u.n. and didn't go in and kill that bastard, I would hate to see that happen again to Iraqi's..

The difference is you have to WANT it. They are not used to being free and most of them didn't think there was anything that wrong to begin with. If you have never had a taste of something it is hard to be passionate about it especially if you think the system you had before was working just fine.
