Some Indians do it , as a fashionable accessary. Its not exactly Indian custom.

Its rather Shetland Islands custom:

When a person has received a sprain, it is customary to apply to an individual practiced in casting the "wresting thread." This is a thread spun from black wool, on which are cast nine knots, and tied round a sprained leg or arm. During the time the operator is putting the thread round the affected limb, he says, but in such a tone of voice as not to be heard by the bystanders, nor even by the person operated upon:
The Lord rade,
And the foal slade;
He lighted.
And he righted.
Set joint to joint,
Bone to bone,
And sinew to sinew.
Heal in the Holy Ghost's Name!

Indians(Hindus) usually tie a red thread around their wrists. It is usually tied after a puja ceremony as a blessing to the participents in the ceremony .

Use of black thread to ward of evil entered India with Muslims. Its very common among Muslims to tie a blck thread with Verses of Kuran in a small locket tied on their arms, or worn in neck etc. Also a black thread in waists of small children.

So its more or less western custom.(middle east is also in the west of India).

Black thread or anything you tie which fits tightly on the toe next to the toe thumb, gives you some accupressure. You can tie on any of your toes, left foot or right foot. Some say it provides you a cool head. Try it and experience for some prolonged period of time.

Not all Indians do that. In some community they pray to their God and tie the black thread and it is only some people"s belief only. Even in India we christians do not do this.

You can tie it on either food depending on the meaning you want to convey. If you get it on the wrong foot, however, you better be prepared to pay the consequences big time.

It could be something she ate if she is on solids every day. Or it could be something she ate that you didn't know about. If you cant identify it best to have it looked at. funny story with my first kid, she was about 12 months. I changed her one day and there was like this long toxic green colored something in her diaper. I was so worried so I put on some gloves and took it out trying to figure out what it was. That was when I realized it was green gum. I called The sitter and asked, and the sitter said oh ya i tried to give her a piece cause she asked but she swallowed it. It was only a tiny piece. lol then i called my mom and told her that I just found out that gum don't stay in your stomach for 7 yrs. My mother teased me and said duh didn't you know that was a wives tale. My mom sitll teases me about it to this day.

for what?
What a lifeless thread can do for you?
Think about a person who does not have legs?
Do not be carried away by the blind faith.
