They do have a strong urge, instinctive, to do it, but are never happier afterwards.. They never just kick back and smoke..but are continually restless and miserable until the female is out of heat..
there is never an indication of pleasure.. I feel so sorry for them during 'heat' seasons..always restless and never slaked..They will often fret themselves to death if not separated..

Instinct, at times, can be much stronger than our "rational selves". Very few animals, other than humans, participate in intercourse for other reasons besides to procreate. So, what does a male animal do, whose instinct is to procreate with as many women as possible to ensure the continuation of the species?

I beleive intercourse serves many purposes in the animal kingdom. Chimps for example do it establish and maintain hierarchy in the group as well as to establish social positions. But most animals do it to procreate.

"Enjoyment" seems to me a higher level emotion than just plain "pleasure," so I think you'd have to make some judgments about a particular animal's degree of "consciousness" or "awareness" to differentiate the two. Aside from that, animals other than humans most definitely engage not only in intercourse, but in all forms of sexual behaviour for non-procreative purposes. Sometimes these purposes are an important part of their social organization, e.g. to establish dominance or settle quarrels, and sometimes they are "just for fun"! If you're interested, a very wonderful example are the BONOBOS, one of our most closely related primates, whose social system depends on a great deal of sexual contact -- inter-gender, same gender, and intergenerational. If you're even more interested, check out a book called "Biological Exuberance" which should be available from your library.

Only to procreate. There is no emotional involvement, although I do believe they get physical pleasure from it. However you are not depriving them from something if you spay and neuter. You would simply be saving lives by doing that. With 8 million dogs murdered every year in shelters for lack of space, it's the kindest thing you can do.

Only to further the species. Humans are the only species that believes that prolonged intercourse is a good thing & personally I blame all this non-sense on Cosmo magazine. You don't see a female rhino raggin' on her mate for not goin' long enough!

Animals only mate because of their instinct to procreate... I heard once that there is one animal that does it for enjoyment... But I can't remember what it is.

Most animals have sex only for procreation. With the exceptions of Dolphins and Primates. A really intresting occurence of this is with the Bonobo Ape. They actually have sex front to front and vary positions. It was weird when I read about it.
