I already took the ASVAB, and I'm headed to MEPS next week. My husband is active duty, but he's not in any of these career fields. He's helped my alot, but I just wanted to see what other people had to say. :-)

In531- You can be assigned to work in many places, and I guarantee there will be shift work, and if you get a flying job you'll have lot's of TDY's. So this job in Signal Intel is not for the 9-5 crowd.
1n431 may get you assigned to a 9-5 job at someplace like the Air Intelligence Center at Wright Patterson AFB, in Ohio. Or you may be in a bunker somewhere in Iraq. Prerequisites for this AFSC exist.
9s100 Welcome to Area 51 or other research facilities. Better have your life totally together with no problems. This one requires a Top Secret Clearance, with a very special background check. Your level of access would be quite high. This may be your best bet at 9 to 5.

Good luck to you. Very unusual question, was happy to answer.

Air Force runs 24X7, you may be lucky and get a shift in a low manned field and work 7-4:30 or you could work swing, or graveyard. No matter, dont' get set in your schedule as it will changed based on the needs of the duty location you are at. Often, day shifts are based on two things, rank, and seniority. Meaning that it is required there be two techs, one master, five staff, and an officer, at any given time. Well if there are three techs all wanting days, it's whoever has been there longer. Not to mention that any deployments you won't be working cushy hours. Oh and when you do get cushy hours, don't think you slide out of weekends or late nighters so easily. They will come up and you will not have the option of saying sorry I can't. Your plans go out the window no matter how important they are (even marraige, or birthings). Nothing including family comes before or above the military once you sign on the dotted line.

Military is a great option for a lot of people and offers the stability of employment, decent pay, excellent training, great health benefits, etc for the right people. You should always look deeply before committing because when you join, you are owned by the government.

We have another 10 years before retirement, and wouldn't choose differently.

most military is "m-f, 9-5" My hubby has weekends off and often extra days off, however he has pt m-f 6 am then has to head back to the office at 9 am and can get off of work between 5 and 8 pm. He's in the Cav Armor div in the ARMY. But women aren't allowed combattance so they usually do the office jobs or the "easier" stuff. Sorry. Hope this answeres your question
