Hi! If you do have a friend that is suffering from depression, then firs of all, talk to them about it. Only you know the right way to approach them but one thing, don't come on to strong and make them feel like they have to have an explanation for why they are feeling this way. Just let them know that you've noticed something was different or that you've noticed some signs and you were just wondering if there is anything you can do. Ask them, do they want to seek professional help? or do they just need to talk and get something out into the open? But let them know that it is ok to feel depressed no matter if you understand the situation or not. We all don't view things the same way and what might be just an everyday bump in the road to you may not be the same for your friend. Also, if you offer your support, then follow through with it. If you don't that can send them into and even deeper depression. If they need to talk, then be prepared to JUST listen. Don't feel like you always have to have an answer for them or that they expect you to solve anything for them. Sometimes, all a person needs is a sounding board. Then once they can voice their problem, then it may be just a little more listening and support may be all they need. It is so amazing what a person can sort out after hearing their thoughts in actual words instead of just in thoughts in their head. Sometimes as you verbalize the problem, it all seems to unfold and you can start to see a little glimmer of light instead of a big dark cloud. However, don't forget to tell yourself that it's ok if you don't have the answers and you cannot be the one to help them. Because then, you might be joining them in the depression area within no time. If the support and listening ears from his/her friends/family aren't enough, then with much compassion, urge them to get professional help. Please remember to make sure they know that it is more than ok to feel the way they do. None of us are made of an indestructable material. Even giants fall to their knees now and then.

I would take him/you to a Doctor. A regular MD can help. If he/you are not keen to going to a Psychologist/Psychiatrist.. There are many things the Doctor can do. But as a friend, always be there... Best Wishes...
