same here. you are substituting your pain with gain. you try to ease yourself with food cause it feels good to you. if you could try to readdress that food with, and do this slowly, but with some water, and or gradually water and whatever you eat then to just water so you don't go into shock. then if it must be food make it something healthy. a piece of fruit. eat more small meals but also chew them up really fine. the more water you drink you can omit the water gain and it will fill you up so that even though you want to eat you will just be too full. so try at least 3-4 glasses of water before a meal and you will see your weight go down. then you must think am i depressed because of the weight i want to lose or is the weight because of depression. good luck. cause it will slowly creep up and you have to slowly take it off. antoher not it will take a lot of self discipline. remember, when you are ready to really get it off and stop impulse eating you will. your will and you can. just day by day

Hi,
Some questions I want to ask you before we talk about the eating -
- What's your day like?
Do you have a job where you have to sit all day, and think, or type, or read, or study. Then I suggest that you pick up something to do - like a hobby. It could be a Salsa Class, a Yoga Class, Rock Climbing - anything regular that's fun, and where you will be meet exciting people to keep your mind away from food.
- What do you do when you get home?
Do you rush to the TV, turn it on, and sit with a pack of chips or a bowl of popcorn. Try a flavoured chewing gum if you want to keep your mouth busy while you'r not doing anything. Or have plants at home, that you need to tend to when you're back. or try your hand at making different kinds of munchy salads and sit with those. Keep an alarm that will remind you that you've spent enough time in front of the TV, take a walk before going to sleep, or just put on some music and dance for a while. Change your routine, bring friends home, go out and meet someone you haven't for a long time.
When your mind is busy with other things, you will eat only when you need to. So the trick is trick your tongue - And don't concentrate on the growing fat, instead do fun things to keep fit, like dancing, rock climbing, yoga.
Also, when you're eating, only eat. Concentrate on your food. Look at it, feel the shapes that you eat, the colors - then chew on your food. This way, you'll eat less and feel full faster.

Eating out of boredom, or just because your body has a certain level of blood-sugar it finds hard to come "down" from - is a real issue for me too. I've found that snacking regularly is quite recomended but it's WHAT we snack on that counts.
Try to slowly reduce the amount of sugars and saturated fats by replacing your snacks with things like fresh fruit, carrot sticks (ugh, talk about the cliche food of dieters) and things of this nature. Also - don't forget to treat yourself to things that taste great - mango - pineapple - a new fruit you've not had before - low fat yogurt etc and so on. You can have your piggy foods ice cream, chocolate too - but moderate it heavily, perhaps once a week have a small chocolate bar or even make a special occasion whereby you walk for half an hour and have your favourite snack as a reward.
Food should not be a struggle, the more you diet heavily the worse you'll feel, you'll crave and crave until it breaks you - like it does so many poeple. I have lost the most weight by just snacking sensibly with good foods - reducing the fats n sugars slowly (so your body gets used to the change) and by doing a LOT of walking, moving up to light exersize and upper-body exersize too.
Find out how to bake and cook good light healthy food, and it doesnt need to be bland - god it shouldn't be or you'll grow to hate it, load up on spice, herbs, flavoursome ingredients - and you'll soon find like i have that the fatty chips and burgers will start to taste boring in comparison! ^__^
Happy Eating!

Short of getting yourself hypnotized... ... I would recommend only keeping healthy foods at the house. If you don't keep any easy/ready to eat food, then you wont be tempted to snack so much. The other thing is if you can't stop eating try getting out and keeping active. This should help too. Good luck!!
