My realtor gave me a gift at the closing of each one of my houses, a gift certificate to a local garden store, some hand crafted topiaries.
If you wish you could give her a nominal gift, especially if you like the job she did, but it isn't expected. Much better would be a letter to her company, explaining why you were a satasfied customer.
A cute idea for the buyer is to have something in the house the day they move in, a card, some candy or cookies, if it is an older house, some pictures of the way it was.

Don't know if it's traditional, but I'm sure that realtors do get gifts from time to time.
Most people probably don't, either because they don't think about it/ given them enough already or because there is so much going after the sale like moving into your new property that people forget to.
People tip waiters etc...for something alot more menial, so giving a gift for a good service seems like a nice gesture, or even just sending a thankyou card. The best thing is also recommending them to others if they are good, especially right now when the realtor business is slowing down.
I wouldn't bother giving gifts to the lawyer though.
The amount of money they received in commission, compared to something like a cost of a card or $10-$20 gift is nothing...but like I said it's a nice gesture.
Only do it though if you would truly recommend them to others though, cos then you really are thankful for a great service.
By the way, I never when I bought my house...I was one of those that thought about it but never got round to it....lol

No, don't give them anything, they should both be glad they got your bussiness. The realtor who is helping you sell your home should give you a gift instead as "Thank you for letting me help you with your real estate transaction" and the realtor that brought the buyer should "usually" give a gift to his client as a "congrats for purchasing a new home, live a happy life in it" type of thing. I always give my clients a gift to let them know I really appreciate their bussiness but there is a lot of cheap realtors out there.

No. The realtors get their big old commission.
Do you give gifts to the person who makes your cheeseburger? Who goes in the back room to fetch shoes in your size?
It's a business transaction, no different from any other. There's just more money involved than you're used to.

I thought my realtor did a great job and spent a lot of time with me helping me find the right house. When it was all over I sent her flowers as a Thank You for a great job and patience! :) I feel that in any case that if you feel the need to send a gift go ahead and do it...it makes everyone (including you) feel good. :)

The realtors get the commision and the seller get a clean house. (maybe leave a vase of fresh flowers if you'd want.) Happy closing!
