I just spent 4 months dating this guy at work behind my girlfriend's back (it wasn't serious or anything). He was seeing another chick, which I knew about. He made out with me a lot, told me I was perfect... and then last night he called me and told me he's with this other chick for life.

Am I a jerk for tryin to do this behind my girl's back (a guy, no less), or is he a jerk for leading me on to think it might go somewhere?

BTW... my girlfriend and I have been in a very open relationship for a year... and this guy was going to be my first time with a guy...

How was he leading you on if it "wasn't serious or anything"? You were both jerks but you were also a fool. Someone making out with you a lot and saying nice things is no reason to think a relationship might go further. He got what he wanted and he was happy about it, that's all.

You're both jerks. You're a bigger jerk 'cuz you knew the whole time he was with someone else. Either respect the person you give your "commitment" to or let them go. Not to nail you to the cross, but breaking your word and cheating like that makes you a crummy person. Shape up. Don't confess to your girl either, you live with the guilt and spare her the heartbreak when she finds out you're a liar and a cheat. Make up your mind if you love her or not then act accordingly. Let her go or treat her right.

Hmm... So, let me see if I got you.
You cheated on your GF with some dood.
You weren't mutually exclusive (obviously), and never stated that you were.
He decides to go with the other chick instead of the one who harbors a propensity for infidelity (the one prone to cheat, i.e.: You).

... and now you have the unmitigated gall to think he's a jerk as well.

You may be a jerk, but you've got balls. That earns points in my book. :)

both, two wrongs will never make a right. You need to be honest with yourself and your girlfriend. The only way for me to tell if I was in love with someone is I could see myself growing old with that person and actually very happy seeing it. If not then I know they are not the one.

Sounds like to me you got what you deserved. Deceit in any form is wrong. Why would you NEED to hide the fact you were seeing this person from a friend?
