I have always been a skinny girl and don't eat much and some people even think that I'm anorexic and say things like 'I think skinny girls look gross'. I feel so bad because I'm not trying to look this way. I know that I am not anorexic or bulimic because those disorders have to do with problems with their image. I love my body and want to do everything in my power to make myself healthy. The problem is, I don't have much of an appetite and a lot of times when I eat food, I feel bad, like depressed or something and I can't control it. It's really wierd. A lot of obesed people say that when they are depressed or something, they eat a lot to make themselves feel better. I'm the exact opposite. When I feel sad or upset, I tend to avoid food and have no appetite. I'm also a very picky eater. Is this some type of eating disorder that I've never heard about or is it just me? And if it is just me, what can I do to make myself have more of an appetite?

I don't think this has anything to do with mental health. I think this may have more to do with hormonal problems? or maybe the chemicals in my body? I'm not quite sure....I need answers from experts....

Okay, maybe this does have a little to do with mental health because all my life, I've always thought: 'if I eat more, than others may have less' and I have this major problem of caring more about others than myself... Is that so wrong??

Even if you are thinner than most, if you are within a healthy weight for your size and body type, you are probably fine. Remember most of our population is over weight with unhealthy eating habits so some people may view being thin as a sore item on their agenda, but that is not your problem, it's their's. If you are within a healthy weight range and are still concerned about what you eat or don't eat, try to turn that concern and avoidance into an effort to eat the correct things so your body can reach it's fullest potential. Try to incorporate each food group as often as you can in your meals and make your plate pretty, lots of colors and arrange it nice because your eyes see it before it even goes in your mouth. Also, if you don't each much at mealtime, keep fresh snacks on hand for when you do get hungry, such as grapes, bananas, or muffins.
If you're still concerned or if you are under weight, see a doctor just to be sure. Better safe than sorry!

First and foremost, lose of appetite when depressed isn't strange. If simply eating a meal depresses you, try to find a pattern like the time of day, what is around you, or simply bored or lonely. It may not be eating, but the surrounding. You don't need to try and make yourself eat more, because that isn't healthy. Your body craves the food it needs, just eat until you are comfortably full.

It doesn't sound normal, but I'm not an expert. I suggest you talk to your doctor. I have a friend whose always been a picky eater and never had much of an appetite, but she's never mentioned that food made her depressed. And while she's very thin, she doesn't look anorexic, she actually looks healthy.

I'm not a doctor, but it sounds to me like you do have a mild eating disorder. I also want to mention that anorexia and bulimia do not have to deal with negative body image. Some addicts have eating disorders, regardless of body image. People use eating disorders as a way of managing strong emotions. This sounds like what you're doing, where you feel depressed you won't eat as much, possibly as a way of attempting to control your life in another area. I'm in no way a doctor, but you could do some reading on the subject, as there are lots of excellent resources out there about eating disorders. Whatever you do decide to do, I hope that you're able to have a good life.

There is nothing wrong with you. You can't help the fact that you are a naturally a skinny person. So from now on just try to eat healthier because even though you are thin you can still be unhealthy.

First, get a physical. Make sure that they test for any blood sugar issues. You shouldn't feel bad after eating, especially on a consistent basis.
Add some daily exercise that you enjoy. Try to eat at consistent times.
If the doctor says you're healthy, and if you do fall into the normal range for your height and weight for your build, stop letting it get to you. Everybody is different. Especially, don't let anyone else define what is normal for you.
Good luck, and be good to yourself :-)

hey, you know what? do whatever you feel comfortable with. screw what anyone else says; you can be HUGE, fat and happy and to hell with what everyone else says. I know so many girls that are caught up in the whole eating and working out to stay/become skinny. You don't have to look like a model. If you're still in HS, you're going to change in the next couple of years anyways so just do what you want. it's not weird or wrong to not eat when you're upset. it's bad to force yourself how to look based on the standards of society though. a few hundred years ago curvaceous girls were considered most beautiful. so... girls became curvy. Now people are like, "you need a 10-year old boy body to be hot." not true. Be however you are and be happy with it.

The depressed part is a bad sign. You could be in the early stages of anorexia. Talk to a Dr.

Any feelings of guilt, sadness, or fear of food are an eating disorder. Regardless of weather its from eating or not eating.
You should see a therapist, or start by talking to a peer, councilor or teacher you trust.
