When I pet my cat he gets really pissed and growls. We just got a new kitten about 2 months ago and he seems to be irritated by her. They play and sleep together, but sometimes he just gets really mad at her. Lately though, he is secluding himself and he is growling at everything. I can't even touch him without having him look pissed or growl at me. He has always been a little touchy, but this is getting bad. Is there anything I can give to him like a homeopathic remedy or is there anything that I can do for him to make him know he is loved and doesn't need to be mad?

Hi there...I have found that a product found at most health food stores called Rescue Remedy works quite well for nervous or stressed cats. http://www.bachflower.com/rescue_remedy.htm

With the introduction of a new friend some cats may take awhile longer to adjust than others. Consider offering some special food treats (Gerber Chicken 2nd baby foods works very nicely ...NOT Gerber 3rd as it contains onions and garlic which are toxic to cats) to get him to take interest to be with you. Spend more time playing with him with his favourite toys more than with the kitten. Perhaps he feels a little forgotten and misses being the sole affection to you.

I know you love that cute little kitten, but I think maybe you should think about finding a new home for the baby. However, is the "cat" fixed??? and is the new kitten a male as well. Either way, if old kitty is not fixed, that may be why he is acting up. Make an appointment at the vet, you would be suprised to see how cheap it is to neuter a cat. Good Luck. I promise he will calm down and go back to his old self.

Adding a pet to your household is MEGA-stressful for your pre-existing cat, and he is likely SICK and in PAIN if he is growling like that. He could have even been injured in kitten play.

Anytime there is a change in behavior, activity-level, eating, or elimination, you should bring your cat for a vet check. Cats are subtle creatures who evolved hiding their weaknesses, so by the time you notice something like this, the cat has been suffering beyond his ability to cope for some time!

How old is your cat? If he is about 11 months old and hasn't been neutered, he is getting his male hormones and acting typically for an adult male cat. There's only one cure for this, but it might be too late now. We had a cat neutered after he started showing these kinds of symptoms, but he never stopped being irritable and hostile, and eventually he ran away from home.

Cat to cat jealousy. If it seems that this new kitty and your older kitty do get along, even if just when they are playing, its probably most likely that your older cat is J.E.A.L.O.U.S. of this cute baby. Yes, cats just like dogs and humans get jealous. Try "ignoring" the baby for a while and loving on the older one. He'll warm up in time.

My cat did the same thing when we got a new cat. leave them be. They are gonna hate eachother for the first few weeks, but believe it of not they will be best friends after a few months. Your cat is just used to being the only one. Give him time.

territorial aggression, You can't touch him because you have the scent of the kitten on you. Every time you touch him, he smells the other cat. They should have became use to each other by now.

he is jealous of the new kitten, even though he accepts it, he is jealous of your attention, try putting the kitten in another room and spend time with your cat alone, that should reasure him that he is still loved and wanted...then spend time together all 3 of you paying more attention to your cat than the kitten

When my cat began to act like that i braught him to the vet. this is a common behavior if they have bladder troubles. if he seems like he is'nt able to use the box , or is even more touchy around the mid section you need to bring him in. this problem can cause their bladder to explode. after that i have been told that diet and tomato juice can prevent future problems. good luck to u.
