Yogurt contains live bacteria, but it isn't as gross as it sounds, these bacteria are actually good for you as they aid in the digestion of food.

It does sound creepy when you think about it!
Normally, your stomach has lots of friendly bacteria inside it. Without them, you wouldn't digest your food properly and you would get sick.
If you are ill, or stressed, or eat a lot of junk food, or take antibiotics, that can reduce or kill off the friendly bacteria. Then you will start getting an upset stomach, wind, indigestion etc.
Live or active yoghurt has friendly bacteria in it, which will replace any that you may have lost. So it's very good to eat if you aren't well or have been taking medication. But even when you're well, eating extra friendly bacteria won't do you any harm. So eating yogurt is a bit like a health insurance policy!

"acidophilus" is a living bacteria found in healthy human intestinal cultures. it is considered a pro-biotic,as opposed to an anti-biotic.all humans have cultures of healthy bacteria that helps a body digest properly.if you've ever taken anti-biotics and had diarrhea afterward, it was the anti-biotic killing off the natural "eco-system" in the intestines. acidophilus is best found in yogurt that is labeled with the term"live and active cultures" DANNON per se.the pro-biotic pills are unreliable and costs a lot more than yogurt.
