To show affection. Think about it. What else can they do? If they bite us, we get mad and yell at them. If they bark, we yell at them. When the little ones get excited and pee, we yell at them. They just want to show their love. Aaand its also a way of surrendering power. They are showing that they are submissive to you.

for dogs licking is a way of showing love. When they meet an alpha dog they will lick under the neck.

A dog will mouth at you, even if it doesn't hurt, to show he is the alpha, then, when he thinks he is he will start to lick you to show that you are loved.

Some dogs tend to lick more than others though, its just personality
