no he did not, he was taken to a near by island, to a medical facility but doctors declared him dead, the main problem was he was stung on his heart by a stingray, if it would have been somewhere else he would have survived, as per the facts and figures since 1996 to 2005 17 people heave been stung by sting ray on their hearts and none of then except the one (don't remember his name) survived, it is said that Steve did not get the proper initial treatment on that boat, which made this a mishap.

If some say yes, others will counter with no. This has been hotly debated although I am sure I don't know why. He is gone and that's the bottom line. Doesn't really matter if he lived for seconds or minutes after the mishap. Peace to his family. TIme to move on.

Some people believe so, he was stung by a stingray straight to the heart, and punched a hole there. He died of shortness of breath, must've died quickly.

No, they got him out of the water, and he pulled the barb out himself. Appearently no one realized it pierced his heart
