before you go to sleep try taking a washcloth with warm water and scrub your lips in a circular motion to exfoliate the dead skin off of them. Immediately rub in a good amount of Vaseline in circular motions as well, and put a thicker layer on top of that and go to sleep, You will wake up with silky smooth lips. To keep them that way I use chapstick brand medicated lip balm (the light blue tube). Good luck!

Some lip balms can actually dry out one's lips even more. Carmex, etc. are examples. Go to a health food store like "Whole Foods" and find one there. In addition, use a combination of sugar and water and with a very soft toothbrush brush away the flakes, as the woman above mentioned.

Dryness of the lips usually originate from within - drink more water and replenish your inner fluids. Vaseline is to compliment the effect, so try not to depend too much on it as at the end of the day, it's still chemicals.

I have cronic dry skin and the dermotologist recomended Blistex "extreme moisture". It comes in a blue tube. It has the added benefit of some sunscreen. Drink lots of water, don't lick your lips or chew on them and be patient as it takes at least three days for new healthy skin to develop

I like Burt's Bees Lip stuff. Vaseline won't stay on long enough & is messy.

If you put vaseline on your lips and scrub gently with a toothbrush (not the one you are currently using) it will soften and exfoliate your lips admirably.
