Where I live, girls who do that are frowned upon but I'm very curious to know if many women do it and if it is something common and/or normal. People here say that it is not normal but I'm not too sure.

For some reason guys masturbating is more acceptable than girls, while two girls fooling around is way more acceptable than two guys, and guys who get a lot of play are heroes, while girls who get a lot are whores. I'm not sure, but I think it comes from the same place that keeping women at home in the kitchen and not letting them do "man's" work comes from.
But to actually answer your question, the majority of women do it, though it's a smaller percent of women than men.
