easy way to put the meaning across "i'm not available" without screaming, "leave me alone" to other who is interested.

some used it as a reminder for someone they have lost or used to love that they cannot get over with.

other used it as a tool to shoo away predator around the corner, big rocks can be dangerous ammunition...

Yes, especially if you have a boyfriend or fiance and no ring yet. Men dont approach as much, are a bit more respectful and back off easier. I would claim Im married for the same reason but didnt have a band on and that wasnt enough...still need the ring!

I had a job when I was in my early 20's where I did just that - to keep from being hit on.

Men are a lot more likely to leave you alone if they see that ring. I was there to work, not set up dates for later.

My boss, who was a man - and happily married, suggested that I do so after a couple of rather uncomfortable situations arose at work. Worked like a charm and I was actually quite thankful.

no!!!!!! - you should never wear any ring on that finger until u get an engagement ring - it is bad luck! I wear a really pretty ring on the middle finger of that hand in the hopes that it will attract a "friend" to come and hang out on my ring finger! Superstitious, yes, but it cant hurt!

yeah! some single ladies like to wear ring on their ring finger to appear married maybe because they don't like to be courted or simply by letting people know that she's in to it (marriage)...

I do... mainly because OLDER men tend to hit on me at the gym. So in order to stop them, I put a ring on my ring finger and they tend to leave me alone. Other than that, I can't say that I do.

Hilarious.

No, it's not common at all. In fact, whoever told you it is just trying to confuse you.

Most women rarely get hit on. How often do you see a girl get hit on? Not often at all. So unless they're working at a male-only retirement home or a bar, women don't have a problem with getting hit on.

Secondly, no man is going to notice a ring. These women would figure this out very quickly if they were really being hit on.

Most girls PRETEND that they are hit on often in order to make themselves feel like they are one of the very elite group of pretty girls who do get hit on. Alot of girls love to get hit on, then pretend they don't like it. Ugly girls stress that they get hit on on more than pretty girls do, since pretty girls feel no need to validate themselves.

Girls love to make it sound like they get hit on. Love it even more in the rare once every two years instance when they DO get hit on; and they love even more to pretend they dislike it and that it pesters them.

These foolish females saw this thread as an opportunity to bolster their confidence and jumped on it. I deal with women like this every day.

I've never gone to that extent but i have told a guy that i was in a relationship when i wasnt. Its an escape mechanism. An easy way of letting people down for whatever reason.
