probably not. If they couldn't keep from getting convicted then they don't come from a background I'd be interested in.

We go thru phases in life under differant circumstances. What we might have done earlier in our lives can tarnish us 4-ever and it should not always be that way. For one to succeed in changing, one needs a chance or a break. Those crimes he committed at 18 was nothing huge. How many of you stole something when you were younger but this guy just got caught. How many of you drink and drive but the dui driver just got caught. Dont be calling the kettle black. When one makes an honest effort...the past needs to be overlooked.

What's all this "turn their life around" ? I got busted for stealing some gas ($1.25 worth) at age 19. Got convicted fined - paid the fine, got new friends. Now 43yo & that's just one more dumb thing I did when I was a kid.
A single conviction at that age like that - that's not even as bad as getting a conviction for possession of weed.
P.S. My conviction was NOT enough for me to be refused citizenship 2 years ago. I had a couple of minutes in my natualisation interview explaining the circumstances - BFD.

yes. everyone deserve a second chance. some even deserve a third, fourth, etc. that's what I believe. humans need that - a chance to show the world that they can change.
another point to ponder - there's no rule that states you can and cannot befriend a bad person. check any religious book - none tell people to isolate bad people. in addition, you must help them in any way you can. and even if you befriend a rapist, murderer, as long as you don't follow what they're dong - fine.
the person you're talking about is trying to turn his life aroud. believe in him. give him the chance to do so. furthermore, his offence is life not that big anyway. so, give him the opportunity, give him the chance. believe in the goodness of people and life (refer samwise gamgee's speech in the LOTR-the two towers, when he convinced frodo and faramir in osgiliath).
my answer to your question is yes - go for it. if you like him, why not date him?
and that's all I have to say about that.

We all make mistakes. If the person knows that what they did was wrong and really learned something positive from the experience I would probably date the person. But I have no faith in our prison system being able to rehabilitate a prisoner. Usually they learn a better way to commit crime. But this has nothing to do with the person you know...just going on. Best wishes.

Yeah, if it was for stealing a coat, then give them a chance. They can't be that dangerous. Everyone screws up every now and then, if he seems to have turned his life around, then maybe it was just a stupid kid thing that he'd like to forget.
But if it was murder, that's another story....

it is good to know a persons background so that you know what o
r who you are dealing with. we all have skeletons in our closet and no matter what the past he paid for it. we are all given another chance it is what we do with it to determine our worth to ourselves. i say all of that to say yes i would if i cared for that person it dont matter what he did at 18 he made a mistake and he has repented for that and changed himself around. if it were you or anyone else wouldnt you want someone to give you that chance cause you made a wrong choice and trying to make it right. that i say would be judging a person if anyone says diferent. then i would like to see what is in there closet that they can judge him

yes of course! it does not matter to me what his past is as long as i see the person as really sincere in changing his life and i like him...we do commit mistakes at some point in our lives..what a person does that is wrong in the past should not become our basis for judging the totality of the person.
