2 years old is generally too young for a boy. They are vastly different in potty training than girls.
Aim for 3, or 3 1/2. He'll be having accidents occasionally until he's about 5.

If he just isn't catching on yet... don't rush it. Boys tend to take a little longer at this then the girls do - mostly if they are the only kid.
I have a boy, he's 7 now. When it came time to "potty train" him, I let him make the first move. By age 3 he did it pretty much all by himself... and I didn't have to stress about it! (we did keep him in pull-ups at night for the accidents till the pull-ups stayed dry each night for at least a month).
There was ALOT of praise, and I answered any questions he had. As far as the "standing" to pee.. that came later. At first it was the easiest to just have him sit to pee so he didn't get fursterated.
All I can say is DON'T rush it... it's less stress for you! Why put yourself through it! However, If you must feel you should do something... suggest it, don't push or rush. See what his response is. If he seems interested, answer any questions and go from there... if he'd rather just do something else, he's just not ready yet.
Kids want to "grow up".... they'll get to it.

the best advice I got: DON'T RUSH THE POTTY TRAINING!
For a boy, they aren't usually ready til 2 1/2- 3 years old. We used the "cheerios" in the toilet, and it worked after a few weeks...but my son was almost 3. Never had an accident or problem after that. If you push or rush him before he is ready, you will have problems or accidents after.

if he seems not ready wait a month and start again. There are training video tapes out there and training books geared for the 2 year old. It makes it like a fun game for them.

What do you need help with? Does he keep on having accidents???
If so there is a few things that could be causing this:
1. Hes just not ready..give it time.
2. if hes ready but hes working extra hard on it and he keeps having accidents get him checked to make sure he doesnt have a uti (very common in little kids, and it doesnt have to have pain)
3. He doesnt feel like the extra work is worth it, in this case you need to reward him or excite him.

This takes some patients and consistency. If there is a man in the house he is the one who should be doing that,If not,Make it a daily routine to take him in the bathroom at least 4 or 5 times a day.put him on the toilet and tell him it is time to go pee pee.You will probably have to guide his thing so he doesn't pee on the floor. Now,if he is tall enough stand him in front of the toilet, hold his thing then tell him it's time to pee pee.He may or may not go,don't worry about it as long as you let him stand there long enough to have gone to the bathroom. And don't forget,he is only 2 and may not quit understand the process yet.

Make it a game. When we potty trained my son we threw cheerios in the toilet and told him he had to sink them all. He was in there every five minutes trying and was toilet trained in less then two weeks.
