When you sleep, the voluntary muscles in the body relax as you are not actively choosing to use them. Hence your eyes close. keeping your eyes open takes alot of physical energy in relation to the size of the muscles. Some people have less skin on their eyelids, so they sleep with eyes slightly open.
hope this lets YOU sleep better tonight..>!

sleep is how we refresh our bodies ,that refers to every thing including the muscles that we use to keep our eyes open . the eyes them selves also need rest or you would suffer from eye fetigue (that head ache in the eyeball ) and cronich head ache .
